I will play around more with the app but for now my handle is FlickeredFlame. And I think I have added everyone who is currently listed above as of 11 pm on Fri. Feb. 13th. Can anyone confirm that I've added you as a friend?
The other question to this, do people have a time period when they do not want messages coming to their phones? I never turn my cell off, it gets muted, but I can accept messages whenever. And what are the parameters around responding to texts? 24 hours like PMs on the board or something different?

Unfortunately, there is no notification for when you add someone. You may have added me, but I cannot see or get notified if you did. Both parties have to add for the other to be added.
Also, I cannot seem to find your name to add you. Do you have it as searchable?

I have only had 3 phones since 1999, and that's because the others died.

This app is amusing to me. I have two phones right now, a BB10 and Samsung Note (I just happen to be in the process of change). I set this up on the Note and it worked out fine, as ....noted. Then I went to add it to the BB as I haven't completely decided which I will keep for the long term, and its not supported for the BB10. This just seems funny to me given that CG has had this issue for the exact opposite reason with his Samsung.
(I have basically zero idea how these things work or whatever, so I'm sure a tech guy could explain it rationally)

Open the App and go to "More" and then "Settings". The 5th option down is "Notifications" and will give you options for Show Preview, In-App Sounds, In-App Vibration. Make sure those are turned on.
If you have an iPhone, you may also have to go into your Settings app and Notifications adjust for Kakao as originally I said to ignore all Notifications (I do this for all apps so I don't get random messages like crazy) and then adjust for sounds, banners/alerts and previews.

As an update - To hopefully make it easier to find me I have changed my ID to CphlBlackhawks and made it searchable
