If that is true, Winnipeg should spend some of their monetary savings from this trade on better scouts.

I assume that means best prospect that Buffalo made available. Reinhart wouldn't of been an option. But I could be wrong and they have Armia ranked ahead of him.

Funny thing with these trades is that what we all expect never really pans out.

The most familiar trade to this in recent years is probably the Stewart & Shattenkirk & 2nd rounder (Ty Rattie) for Johnson, 1st Rounder (Duncan Siemens), & Jay McClement.

Looking back at that trade the best player to move was Shattenkirk, and the 2nd rounder ended up being better then the first rounder.

I think Kane will be very good in Buffalo with McEichel and Reinhart. Out of the spotlight now and on a younger team where he will be viewed differently. I like Bogo, I think he is better than Myers right now personally. I dont think there is an argument though over who has more potential. Myers could be a beast if he gets it together on the right team. I am very pissed off about this trade tbh. Makes winnipeg a lot better. Stafford is a decent enough depth scorer on a better team, Armia has a LOT of upside - I dont know jack about lemiux but seems ok. AND a 1st to the best drafting team in the league recently (wpg).

I dont like this at all.

Right now? I can see that. In terms of potential I think they are closer than most people think. Armia is a player.

Buffalo has some pieces, but anyone declaring them a soon to be powerhouse is jumping the gun.

They have Reinhart, they'll have McDavid/Eichel. They don't have a goalie and they basically have no players between the ages of 21-28 (which is why they made this trade). You just can't afford to have a team with 15 guys within the same age group.

McCann must be sad. He could've been traded.

Armia is scoring at the same rate as Baertschi in the minors... not exactly a star in the making.

Lemieux is fine but probably a 3rd/4th liner in the NHL.

The 1st round pick will be late.

Its not a slaughter or anything... its a fair deal.
You left out the part where they did all of that with a player that didn't want to play for them and that they, quite frankly, didn't want around anymore.

Also, when did first rounders become marginal assets if they are late?

Without a doubt. Winnipeg has made a killing in the draft since the team moved

Highly touted prospects and high end NHL players are two different things. You're only the 'best drafting team' when the former become the latter.

I don't know. Scheifele ahead of Couturier, Hamilton and Brodin? They were in a position to get a good player but he's arguably the worst of the bunch. Lowry was a good pick up, but I wouldn't say their 2011 draft was anything special, just not a disaster.

Trouba is looking like a win but he went around where he was suppose to go, it's more of a result of having a top 10 pick than finding that diamond in the rough a la Detroit.

I don't believe Morrisey has really climbed up in the 2013 rankings. He's looking like a solid pick, but is he ahead of Zadorov, Mantha, Wennberg or Lazar all drafted after him?

Petan, Comrie, Lowry and the other later round picks are all nice but I would say Winnipeg has done more of "not ####ing up" as opposed to "killing" until a couple of their late round draft picks make an impact in the NHL.

As a Flames fan I'm just glad Bennett is stil a Flame. Although it sucks that the Jets got better for a playoff run.

Murray confirms report that Lemieux told Sabres he wouldn't sign with them

Mike Harrington @BNHarrington
Murray confirms he couldn't sign Lemieux for now but hadn't given up on it. Not a reason for trade.
