Lemieux has 35 goals in the OHL this year, but 22 are on the PP. Button is in the clouds if he thinks Lemieux is a sure fire second liner.

Why are people getting their panties in a knot about Bennett? Mckenzie, was saying what he assumed the Jets would ask from Calgary. He's creating buzz, when there is nothing else to write about.
As a Jets fan I am pumped about this trade, Kane is out of conference, Bogosian was not going to live up to his draft position, not to mention the rumours about his recent rehab stay. The pieces we got back help us now and into the future.

Just like Phaneuf who was labelled an elite talent and "still developing" at age 27 around here.

I think the general hope is that Bennett will be the Flames' #1 centre for ten plus years. There is very little in the LEAGUE that you would trade that for. The Flames haven't had an undisputed number one centre in a generation. Meyers, a young, struggling defenseman on the 30th team in the league is certainly not one of the few things that you would trade that potential for.

Breaking down the trade it's obvious why those laugh at the thought of trading Bennet in this scenario.
Bogosian and Myers is basically a wash. They cancel each other out.
Drew Stafford has 9 goals and a UFA this summer, his value is effectivly zero. Perhaps that of a long shot young-ish goalie prospect? Enter Kasdorf. Another wash.
The deal boils down to legit but 2nd pairing prospect Joel Armia, 2nd round prospect Lemiuex and a late 1st.
Those last three pieces won't get Bennett.

Just a thought on rebuilds...
Bogosian was 3rd overall in 08 and Kane was 4th overall in 09.
Imagine if Monahan and Bennett got traded a few years from now for Myers (under achiever), Stafford (UFA), Armia (mid 1st rounder with similar value to Baertschi right now), Lemieux (2nd rounder who is just over 1 PPG in his post draft year), and a 27th-30th overall pick?
The Jets turned what was once serious quality into a whole bunch of quantity, with some wasted years thrown in.
So I wouldn't be too quick to praise Chevy and the Jets. Because even though the return is decent for their current value, they also have to take some responsibility for the fact that that value is so low.

Johnny, is McDavid also < Myers, since he's "unproven" too? I grant you that sometimes a full time NHLer outwieghs a promising prospect. But at some point potential outweighs the actual play.
You could, for example, make an argument for Seth Jones being more valuable than Bennett in a trade. But not Tyler Myers.

People are widely overrating what the Jets got in this trade.
Bogosian and Myers are both guys who's career has gone way down since their early years.
Stafford is fine, but doesn't move the needle at all.
Armia is scoring at the same rate as Baertschi in the minors... not exactly a star in the making.
Lemieux is fine but probably a 3rd/4th liner in the NHL.
The 1st round pick will be late.
Its not a slaughter or anything... its a fair deal.

I really like this trade for Buffalo. Winnipeg gets a boost if the overall improvement in the dressing room translates to a better team, but from a straight personnel perspective, I think Buffalo looks pretty good. Two potential young stud players for one young player, a vet, and a bunch of hopefuls.

yup. I always giggle like a schoolgirl when I think about having Sam Bennett, Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund as a 1-2-3 down the middle. Great times to be a Flames fan.

Surprised so many think Myers for Bogosian is a wash. To me Myers has a much bigger upside. Big d-men are often inconsistent to start their career , see Pronger/Chara. Myers has the skill, size and skating to be special. Whether he reaches that potential is the question. He's more likely to do it surrounded by Trouba, byfuglien, Enstrom the. He was in Buffalo. Also Myers is a right shot which can be hard to find.
I'd much, much rather have Myers than Bogosian. I see higher upside with Tyler.

Recent issues, yes, but rumors have been circulating for years about how Kane thought Winnipeg was a dive. How about this endorcement from Kane... even when given a direct opportunity to say yes he wants to play there he won't do it but evades question.
http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/do...winnipeg-jets/
1040: Evander do you want to play for the Winnipeg Jets anymore?
Kane: Well I think I’m a Winnipeg Jet right now, and, you know, there’s been speculation and rumors the three years since I got there. So, you know, we’ll see what happens and we’ll carry on as if I’m a Winnipeg Jet.
1040: There’s not a yes in there, and some Jets fans might say, “why doesn’t he want to play for us?” Or “why isn’t he absolutely fully on board for playing for us?” You’re shaking your finger at me.
Kane: I’m training hard and getting ready for this season and last summer I didn’t have a full year of training due to some surgery I had, so I found it really important for me to start training early and get myself in the best shape possible for this season. So that’s my focus.”

Lots of question marks in this trade. Could easily turn out to be a robbery for either side. I guess that makes it fair.

Kane will likely do better when he is out of the spotlight and constantly being hounded by fans and media. I could see him bouncing back pretty good too
