Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Cheveldayoff says it's Buffalo's choice which first-round pick they will send to Wpg. So obviously will be the lowest one

Does it have to be a pick this year? Or can they decide to send a future 1st?

Buffalo makes a lot more sense, they are bad already, have no momentum and will have a new piece or 3! for Kane to play with in the future.

Calgary is full of momentum and really doesn't need any possible turmoil added to the room.

Releases from the teams say 2015 1st pick, so I think it has to be this years'.

Given the Sabres didn't give up anything remotely approaching a Bennett, I have no idea how - other than to be a troll - that you suggest this deal means the flames would have had to give up "Bennett ++++", WRUCOS.

Usually the team that gets the best player wins a trade long term and that is likely Buffalo if Kane clicks with whoever they get (McDavid likely).
Myers - Bogosian is a wash IMO, but Myers probably has a bit more upside. Stafford is a stop-gap forward for this season. Kane wouldn't have played another game this season after his surgery, so getting Stafford is better than being without Kane for the rest of the season. They can always combine their own 1st with the one they are getting (probably between 20 and 25 or so) to trade up. Armia is having a good AHL season, he'll probably be NHL ready next season. And Brendan Lemieux also has potential to be an effective player down the road.

Unless Kane becomes a 40 goal scorer alongside McDavid or Eichel, I think this one is a huge win for Winnipeg.

The package the Sabres gave up is > Bennett, which was his point I think

Many value 200 ft play and team-oriented players above pure point-getters, especially those with team-breaking attitudes.

Again - just because one or two people posted something that doesn't mean it is a collective opinion of CP.
Don't call out the entire board or community because of one or two posts.

Honestly, Kane doesn't even put up many more points than Backlund does. No way in hell would I trade Backlund for Kane. Not even close.

After looking at the hefty price tag that buffalo paid for Kane I'm glad the flames stayed out of this one. Big overpayment in my opinion for the attitude that Kane brings.

Myers is a ton of untapped potential. Bogosian however seems more like a guy that isn't likely to improve much to me.

Clarification: do the jets get the lowest of the first round picks no matter what? What happens if one of the later first round picks wins the lottery despite the odds?

We don't have a 6'5 defenseman that went first round and hasn't lived up to expectations to date.

It's nice to break down the trade as you like, simply removing parts you deem as equal, but in 5 - 10 years from now it might be those parts that make or break the deal.

No reason to have him play. Kane is legitimately injured no sense risking further aggrevating the injury and impacting next season when the Sabres aren't competing for anything this year except for McEichel.
