- the deal helps the Jets now and for the future
- Tyler Myers is an upgrade on Zach Bogosian. Drew Stafford is a serviceable third-liner to help the Jets make playoffs
- Brendan Lemieux is a lock to be a second line power forward and Joel Armia has a chance to be a scoring winger
- Kane has won the lottery – he's a fast, powerful goal scorer almost certain to be playing with generational centres McDavid or Eichel, both of whom are brilliant playmakers"

If I recall Button was high on Lemeiux heading into the draft - which is fine - but I can't believe anyone thinks he's a "lock" to be a second line power forward.
I think Lemeiux stands a VERY good chance of paying in the NHL but that his ceiling is rather low.

I said this a few days ago, but I don't think the Sabres put a lot of stock into the locker room cancer story.
Hell their owner approved Incognito signing with the Bills.

BUffalo had all the assets to make this deal. Their prospect depth let them do this. Chevy really saved face with the trade which I think is a good thing over all for WPG. They can walk away from the Kane debacle with their heads high.

Surprised it went down this fast, WPG is obviously desperate for help now to make the playoffs and not burden the team with shoulder-gate.
But for what they got, can't blame them for doing this at all.
Pretty clear to say that the flames would have needed to give up Bennett ++++ to be in this.
The thoughts of Baertschi and Backlund being enough were silly.

Sabres get rid of potential Erixon situation
AJ Jakubec @AJonSports
Not surprised to see Brendan Lemieux involved in Kane/Myers blockbuster. His agent (Claude) told the Sabres Brendan wasn't signing in BUF.

The thoughts of Baertschi and a kid, or mid first pick working was a joke.

Armia was basically the Baertschi in Buffalo's system, they then added a second round prospect. The D-men are a saw-off.
It's hardly "a joke"
edit: ... oh, and now of course you've added Backlund because your desire to be right about a player being bad overrides the positives of a Flames player playing great.

Are we sure? Did they open him up yet?
I wouldn't be surprised to hear "a 2nd opinion from veteran doctor..." says he is ok to play and have surgery at the end of the season.
Although, Buffalo probably doesn't want him playing this year anyway.

Ugh, that sucks for the Peg. Chances are he values the two the same.. unless it was a personal beef with Buffalo management?
Anyone in there his Dad didn't like or something?

As a Flames fan I hate this deal... I don't like to see a W. Conference team we may have to compete against for a wildcard spot get better in the short term. Objectively, I think this is a decent deal for both sides in the long-run.

Yes already been reported by one of the big names (Friedman/McKenzie i forget which) that the surgery was successful and the doctors didn't see any complications to change the 4-6 month predicted recovery time.

Both are a joke, when considering what we had to offer. There were 2-3 very strong assertions in the tracksuit thread that said this would be more than enough.

Really? I don't see it that way at all.
A similar package from the Flames would probably have been Backlund, Baertschi, Wotherspoon and a first. I can see why the Flames wouldn't do it because that's still a lot to give up, but it could definitely have been done without Bennett.

I'll take Backlund over Kane 100% of the time. Skill wise and attitude wise. They're only 2 years apart in age.
This team needs a Langkow more than it needs a Glencross.

Im actually glad that 2 quality young-ish defencemen were traded and neither ended up in Edmonton.

Early on this is a win for the jets if they make the playoffs but I'm not sure long term. Could be a very late 1st rounder, Armia hasn't proved anything at the NHL level, Stafford is a UFA, and Myers has regressed.
Usually the team that gets the best player wins a trade long term and that is likely Buffalo if Kane clicks with whoever they get (McDavid likely).

Well, be wrong I guess. Take out Bogosian/Myers and there's not a lot there for Kane. Baertschi and Backlund combined is better than the pieces that the Jets got. Backlund is considerably better than Stafford and Baertschi and Armia are a wash. A second rounder who wasn't going to sign doesn't close that gap.
Your hatred for Backlund is again clouding your judgement.
