I think I'm going to disagree with the majority... BUF wins this trade. IMO, Bogo/Myers are a wash... Neither are a top pairing dman. Kane > 2014 2nd + 2015 1st
Does your analysis change when you factor in Armia a 2011 1st round pick?

Lemieux is a 2nd round pick

- the deal helps the Jets now and for the future
- Tyler Myers is an upgrade on Zach Bogosian. Drew Stafford is a serviceable third-liner to help the Jets make playoffs
- Brendan Lemieux is a lock to be a second line power forward and Joel Armia has a chance to be a scoring winger
- Kane has won the lottery – he's a fast, powerful goal scorer almost certain to be playing with generational centres McDavid or Eichel, both of whom are brilliant playmakers"
Hard to believe Button thinks that. Lemieux "might" have the offensive chops to make a bottom 6 role as a pest in the NHL. His junior numbers, in general, don't peg him as having anywhere near top 6 NHL upside.

He's a year after his draft and 4th on his team in points (on a team with 5 point per game players) and is the only guy in that group of 5 with a negative on the +/- sheet at -11.

If Brendan Lemieux is a "lock" for a 2nd line role than Poirier is a "lock" to be a star.

Fair deal in my opinion.

Both teams receive a player that they need to polish / resurrect in order to make the transaction a success.

I'd give Cheveldayoff the edge simply because he essentially played a hand of poker while the opponent knew his cards.

Lemieux was a 2nd round pick.

Forget the tank trade or not tank trade talk - the Sabres just lost their 3rd leading scorer and didn't replace him. How is the roster not worse than it was 3 hours ago? I think it's clearly worse.

Agree that Bogosian for Myers is arguably a lateral move and could go either way.

Yeah, that struck me as odd too. A 'lock?' Really?

I don't think Buffalo needed any help taking they were doing a pretty good job with the guys they had...including the two guys going to the Jets

Removing the distraction makes the Jets better now. So therefore I don't like the deal.

However it will be good for the rivalry between Calgary and Winnipeg if both teams can somehow make the playoffs and maybe even meet in the playoffs someday. We're not getting much of a fight from Edmonton so it's good as a Western Canadian hockey market to have arrival to hate.

As I understand it, under the terms of the new CBA if a player is traded before their clauses take effect the acquiring team does not have to honour the clause.

I like this trade for Winnipeg. They knew they had to get rid of Kane and the sooner the better for them. It's basically Kane for Stafford, Armia, Lemieux and a 2015 first. A former first round pick, a future first round pick and a prospect, Lemieux, who was the first pick of the 2nd round in 2015 as well. Not bad given the circumstances but only time will tell of course.

Bogosian for Myers could be a good swap. With the Jets depth on D, Myers can take on a 3-4 role and maybe the change of scenery will help him.

I don't think we're battling with the Jets. We're battling for WC#2 or Pacific#3

Hmm. Interesting thought. How does one define "putrid"?

The five worst teams in the league this year are on a pace for 75 points or less:

Buffalo (52), Edmonton (58), Arizona (70), Carolina (71), Toronto (75)

That is marginally worse than the five worst last year:

Buffalo (52), Florida (66), Edmonton (67), Calgary (77), Islanders (79)

Of the bottom five this year, Edmonton and Toronto did not start the year intending to tank. Buffalo did. Carolina did. Arizona didn't, and other than trading a UFA goalie, hasn't done anything to indicate they are all-in on a tank.

Truthfully, I don't think there is more obvious tanking this year than there was last.

Long-term I think that's how it shakes out. But the Jets are under a lot of pressure to make the playoffs this year, and Stafford helps with that.

Will also be interesting to see if the Jets use their big prospect pool and now multiple firsts to acquire a more substantial forward to replace Kane
