The Sabres' top-notch management team have responded admirably to the challenge from Hall's injury. Once again, they're back in the driver's seat to take hockey's holy grail - first overall pick in the draft.
This should teach management of the Oilers how it's done!
(In other news, a number of lesser NHL teams are focussed on making something called the "playoffs". I'm not sure what that's all about, but I suspect that some third-tier GMs need to offer some distraction to appease their fanbase when they're not in the hunt for a quality draft pick.)

Put me in the camp the Jets win in the short-term, but the upside for Buffalo seems bigger, Kane is certainly the most talented player in it, especially if he gets his act together.
It would be great if this deal works well for both teams because both cities take their share of abuse and have outstanding fans.

Good trade for both teams. Chevy finally steps to the plate and makes a huge deal.
Buffalo gets a first line winger and a top 4 D. Winnipeg gets 2 prospects and a replacement with Stafford and Myers for Kane and Bogo. Stafford might walk at the end of the year

Overall I don't really think this is that lopsided. My first impression was that Buffalo won big but there are things for Peg to like in this deal:
- huge money savings for a non rich team
- Myers has as much potential as anybody
- Lemieux is a good prospect and the first will likely be a good player (Wpg knows how to draft)
- addition via subtraction to get rid of a distraction that wasn't even playing

Wow this is an impressive move for the Jets, especially considering it was known that they were going to move Kane. After sitting on his hands for so long, Chevy makes a monster trade!

really it all depends on how Kane and Myers careers go in the future...not sure why people are worried about the Jets being waaaaay better now though

I see this as Chevy's response to the mocking for never making player-for-player trades. Boom, here's 7 players!
As for the trade, the value seems pretty good. Late first, okay rental roster player and 2 decent prospects for Kane. Swap of highly-touted, under-achieving defensemen. Wildcard goalie prospect thrown in. Winner/loser depends on how you value Bogosian vs Myers.
Hoping Myers can be terrible for the Jets

Yes, you are.
At worst, the Sabres moved laterally on defence and they removed a mediocre pending UFA for futures - which is what pretty much every team outside of the playoff race is looking to do right now.
That is not the Oilers-esque deliberately sabotage the roster to facilitate the tank job move that you so badly want it to be.
Believe it or not, this is a true hockey trade by the Sabres. And one that should make them better in the future. Hell, they're the ones adding salary!

Interesting trade analysis from Craig Button
http://www.tsn.ca/kane-bogosian-deal...-deal-1.205003
"TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button's Trade Assessment:
- the deal helps the Jets now and for the future
- Tyler Myers is an upgrade on Zach Bogosian. Drew Stafford is a serviceable third-liner to help the Jets make playoffs
- Brendan Lemieux is a lock to be a second line power forward and Joel Armia has a chance to be a scoring winger
- Kane has won the lottery – he's a fast, powerful goal scorer almost certain to be playing with generational centres McDavid or Eichel, both of whom are brilliant playmakers"

By the time Edmonton sees the good it will be nothing to them but blinding.

I just think Buffalo assumes a lot more risk than Winnipeg.
Will Kane rebound after the surgery, or is his new ceiling being a 40-50 point player that is injury prone?
Will Kane turnaround his snotty attitude and not cause grief among his teammates?
Will he sign long term when his contract is up in 3 seasons even if he does rebound?
Myers and Bogosian are pretty much a wash IMO.
Stafford is a decent boost for now (Kane was out for the rest of the season and it gives them a warm body for now).
Armia, Lemieux and that 1st rounder are great lottery tickets for the Jets to potentially hit a home run with this deal. If Kane is gone in 3 seasons and the futures that Winnipeg received pan out, Buffalo is going to look terrible for taking this deal.

I don't care. The best thing about this deal is that it shuts down all the Kane to Calgary talk, which was making me nauseous.

It's a hockey trade that still totally helps the tank. The main piece isn't even going to play this season.

I'm not overreacting.
Overreacting might be writing a rant about something. A handful of posts.
2 posts and 2 sentences does not equal an overreaction.
The overreaction here is your response to my posts.
I agree that it's a trade that makes sense. It's a trade however, that I don't like.
You need only look at the number of putrid teams in the league this year to understand why.

As far as quality pieces go, this is basically....
To WPG:
- Myers
- Lemieux (2014 2nd rounder)
- 2015 1st Rd Pick (~25th)
To BUF:
- Kane
- Bogosian
I think I'm going to disagree with the majority... BUF wins this trade. IMO, Bogo/Myers are a wash... Neither are a top pairing dman. Kane > 2014 2nd + 2015 1st

By that logic, any trade for futures qualifies as deliberately trying to tank.
The Sabres' active roster is not appreciably worse right now than it was three hours ago. That does not help the tank.

Not sure if you can discount Stafford as being a quality piece. Middle 6 player who can help immediately and fit with the Jets' style. Alone he would have been worth close to a 2nd round pick as a rental. Also considering where Lemieux was picked, you could easily look at it as a late 2014 1st even if it was a 'weak draft'.

Lemieux is a former first round pick. Could be a great energy player. You are also forgetting Armia. A former first that has as much chance as Sven on making the NHL. Certainly not a sure thing but if he makes it he can score. Not to mention this is a deep draft this year. Could be a very good player available in the lower half of draft.
Edit: sureloss has informed me that Lemieux is a 2nd round pick.
