How can you not? In ten years the debate will be between him and Ekblad regarding who the best player was in that draft. That's my preciction anyway.

I for one wouldn't be opposed to a deal for Kane, as long as it did NOT involve any of the current young core (Gaudreau, Monahan, Brodie, Backlund), or any of Bennett, Poirier, Ortio, nor our 1st round pick.
So that doesn't leave much for Winnipeg....maybe they would consider Glencross, Ramo, Sven/Granlund, and a 2nd rounder....or some similar combination....but I doubt it.

Yep, put me on the boat that if management is able to gain Kane without moving those pieces you mentioned, I'm all for it.

You're basically advocating a 'Gold for Garbage' trade, and yeah, those rarely ever come about.

Pretty much every team in the league would take a flyer on Kane if the cost was basically nothing.

Glencross and Ramo would be rentals only, so their value isn't a real player - only picks and prospects.

But also if they or Granlund/Sven were included in a deal with a pick (which would be more than a second IMO), by trading them for an injured player the Flames get nothing this year and the Jets get help in the PO drive.

Any proposal with Glencross going to Winnipeg is a non-starting IMO. There's a better chance of the Oilers making the playoffs this year than Glencross waving his ntc to go to Winnipeg. Add to that the fact he is a FA at the end of the year and no way Winnipeg does anything with Glencross being the NHL ready part of any deal either.

On the Calgary Flames and the trade deadline:

"I think Calgary could be one of those teams that is interested in Evander Kane as well. And maybe that’s as complicated – Although I don’t know if it’s as complicated with Vancouver or maybe a bit less or more. I guess that would depend on the viewpoint of management in Winnipeg.

“But again, when I think of Brian Burke and whatever sort of influence he would have over Brad Treliving, that’s what I think of. This whole Calgary dynamic this year smells a lot of the Toronto Maple Leafs back in the day when Brian Burke expedited the process. He thought that his team was further ahead, and he jumped on the opportunity to add a star young piece in Phil Kessel. And I wonder if they aren’t, behind closed doors, having similar conversations about Evander Kane.

“Different players obviously, but again, Calgary fits into that group of teams who would love to add that 20-something piece. And if they’re going to do anything, I think that would be something they would show some interest in.”

What the hell is Dreger talking about in that first sentence? I don't even thinks he knows what he's talking about.

So based on that philosophy you'd trade McDavid for Evander Kane? Potential matters.

Trading Bennett for Kane would be insanity. I don't believe its actually a consideration by the Flames. Treliving should be fired immediately if it happens.

All Kane has proven in the NHL is he is a disruption and has a bad attitude. He scored 30 goals and 57 points one year. He has not scored more than 19 in every other season. He is overhyped. Trading Bennett for him would be like giving Hall 7 x 7.....Kane only had 1g and 1a in 12 games in the KHL during the lockout.

No. No no no no no.

Bennett has played zero NHL games but it don't matter, if you believe in the player and the system he'll be developed in you keep him.

like I said in my "gold for garbage" post...."that doesn't leave much for Winnipeg"...'I doubt" Winnipeg would accept.
I was just stating which players I would not consider moving, I would consider all others not mentioned (with exception of Gio and Hudler), so that includes plenty of other non UFAs as well, and many solid prospects like Gillies, Sven, Granlund, Shore, etc.
Again I doubt Winnipeg would accept any such deal, but stranger deals have been made in this league.

You also have to consider that anyone who acquires Kane stands a good chance of only having him for 3 seasons when he becomes a UFA. I can see him being a difficult signing at that point.

Definitely not worth a blue chip prospect IMO.

We already picked up a 20 goal scorer in his 20s

His name is Mason Raymond. Oh, and we didn't have to give up our top organizational asset for him, either.

I disagree

Hey Glenny, we (the flames) have quite the team right now. Its looking tough to get you into the top 6 based on earned and never given. Looks as if you will finish your contract year in the bottom 6 and then have to fight for that big money you are after.
OR
We can send you to the Peg for a couple months where you will play top 6 minutes and then the Jets can sign you to big money or you will have upped your value on the free market and get money you wouldnt have had you played the contract out in Calgary.

Seeing as he is clearly after the coin with his "no hometown discounts", I could see him sucking it up in the Peg for a couple months when it means the difference of 1m + per year moving forward.
