Really? I know Francis is hated by CP but that trade proposal seems far fetched.
Are you sure he was not talking about Hudler and Wideman maybe being on trade market because their value has never been higher?

Hasn't Francis always been notoriously negative towards Flames players? Or am I thinking of 'Bicycle Repairman' Bruce Doh!biggin?

Also hope every team stays well clear of that land mine contract. Let the Kings choke on that one.

I also find it hard to believe someone would actually propose Hudler for Richards. It would be supremely idiotic.

He actually said it would be richards for one of wideman, engellend, raymond. But the kings would have to sweeten it with a first round draft pick. Sounds a little...out there.

During the intermission he didn't mention Hudler. Just said Wideman, Raymond and Engelland.

Engelland or Raymond sure. I'm sure a lot of folks wouldn't mind Raymond for Richards, Richards is a better fit fundamentally.

Not sure why we would want Richards even if his salary was $2 M. The speed of the game has passed him by.

So eariier today Francis claims it's Stajan, Hudler, Wideman. as the possible trade chips
Tonight he says Wideman, Raymond and Engelland or Stajan.
He can't even keep his BS straight for 8 hours.
By the time it hits the Sun tomorrow who knows what the parts offered will be.

The funniest was when they started talking about LA and he said: "LA gives up a tonne of shots" and then immediately gets corrected. I stopped listening to it at that point.

Stajan, Engelland, Richards for Brad Richards and Toffoli

How does Francis keep his job, in all honesty the guy is a complete joke. I go back to FM every time he comes on 960.

Raymond or Engelland, sure why not. If Wideman and especially Hudler were to be involved, there would need to be a huge package coming back.

What Francis forgot is that wideman has a nmc and raymond has some element of a ntc, not sure if full or partial. Engelland is the only one without trade protection.
Agree with others that Toffoli is unlikely. A first in a deep draft or a second and top prospect (one of Zykov, McKeowan or Forbort, for example) seems fair.
I understand that we have to maximize and not undersell but would rather is convert our cap space into assets instead of swinging for the fences and coming up empty. I know riberio reportedly killed a deal that would have seen him come here with a first rohnder at the draft. But asking for a first along with Cam Ward was excessive. Would people have been happy with a second coming with Ward? Probably.
While it would be nice to make the playoffs this year, but if we can get a future asset from LA that helps us down the road, it's worth it, even if LA uses the corresponding space to get a piece to make a playoff push. No guarantee that that piece gets them in or that a team from behind makes a run and passes both us and LA. Maybe WPG collapses and we both make the playoffs. Goal here has to be getting extra assets that helps us build a winner for the future.

I would like to think that people are more excited about the assets that would be coming our way to sweeten the deal.
It sounds like a pipe dream if we got a 1st round pick or a player like Toffoli as a price for taking on that contract, but anything less than that and there is no point making the trade. Taking on that cap hit is a significant burden and it helps out a direct rival, so the asset coming with Richards has to be significant. Lombardi is unlikely to want to part with anything like that, so until he gets desperate I bet Richards toils in the minors.
If Voynov gets acquitted when he goes to trial (March 2nd I believe) that'll be another $4 million they have to cope with. They could be in a bit of a pickle after the trade deadline... So we might not see the endgame of this situation until the off season.

I would imagine that this was not how Mike Richards pictured this season.

I think that the Flames shouldn't trade Hudler... I would think that he's pretty big in the locker room and I think is a reason why Johnny and Monahan have had such successful first and second years.
If a deal can be made without Hudler, that's the route I would like them to take if they're going to make a deal.

LA is in a tough spot for sure. Yeah, Lombardi could simply bury him in the minors and buy him out in the summer if he's not willing to pony up assets in a cap dump trade. But is having that buyout count against their cap for the next decade really all that more palatable?
