Can't imagine the Kings including Taffoli, but I suppose you never know. Would Zykov, Kempe or McKeown be of interest? (the only guys I remember from the last few drafts)

C. Glencross
L. Smid

For

M. Richards
V. Zykov
2015 2nd round pick

I'm not good at proposals. I have a feeling I'm off here but I don't know what else might do.

Glencross has value as an individual trade piece, and Stajan fills a necessary role with the team and does it well. If anything happens, it won't involve those two players. Smid wouldn't surprise me. Neither would Raymond or Byron. I forgot that LA had Zykov. That's interesting.

Canadian dollar is at 80 cents...Gary and Bill can deny it all they want but the cap is not gonna keep going up and will likely be going the other way.

Teams like LA and other are screwed and its great, don't bail them out...Flames are in the drivers seat here make them pay one way or another

Glencross is likely worth a 2nd at the deadline on his own, and I can't see the Flames sending the Kings a player that might help them make the playoffs.

Zykov has had a (relatively) terrible year this season and was cut from the Russian WJC team although many had him as a lock. He might not be the guy to request as a centerpiece of a trade with LA right now.

Or it might be just the right time to pick him up. Buy low.

Well then that just means LA adds even more because that's not nearly enough compensation for Richards' contract.

If he retires now, how much of that contract does he get?
He only gets what he's already been paid.

Anyone else remember the Kiprusoff for Richards trade rumors when Richards was still with Philly?

How crazy would that have been.

I would happily take Richards' contract if the compensation was worthwhile. Keep him through next season and then either buy him out or try to trade with some salary retained.

The Flames were asking for Toffoli for taking Richards' contract. In other words:

Richards + Toffoli for nothing (I know, the Kings don't want that deal, but that's where talks were at apparently)

You are adding Glencross and Smid and switching Toffoli for Zykov and a 2nd.

Toffoli is worth more than Zykov and a 2nd.

So you downgraded their offer AND through in Glencross and Smid.

Good deal!

How about something like

Richards + Toffoli for Smid

So the Flames ask for Toffoli, and the Kings said no? I would assume that means that Toffoli was too much to ask for.

I just tried to spitball an idea and even added a disclaimer that I wasn't that great at proposals. There wasn't really any need for your sarcastic attitude when a simple explanation would do.

I did give an explanation. Are you offended by 'good deal'?

Sorry I can't seem to find the source where Calgary asked for Toffoli . . . Can someone re-post it?

Yep. I've gotten really tired of teams like the Rangers always being able to get out of their bad contracts and I'm hoping that a lot of these long term deals signed over the past few years start coming to bite teams in the rear especially if the cap starts to drop. I hope there are no more compliance buyouts out of the next CBA as all it does is let the usual suspects continue to reoffend.

I think the bottom line here is that LA is unlikely to make a trade with the Flames that helps the Flames in the standings this season. Giving us Richards directly wouldn't do that, but adding someone like Toffoli would. So if that is what it is going to take, it probably won't happen until the offseason. It doesn't hurt to plant the seeds now I suppose.

If it is going to happen this season, the incentive will likely be picks or prospects. I wonder how much a 1st round pick is worth in this conversation. Richards plus LA's first and future considerations for a bottom pairing defenseman and a draft pick. Flames then buy out Richards at the end of the season.

Future considerations could be that for every year Richard's buyout is on our cap, the Flames would have the option of swapping 1st rounders with Kings. It would screw us if the Kings finish ahead of us for those seasons thereby nullifying the swap, but I think it would be a good gamble.

I don't think Smid makes any sense for LA. They would need a forward back to replace Toffoli or a defenceman that could eat some of Doughty's minutes. Not another bottom paring Dman.
