But since you brought it up, and since you felt the need to insult other posters, let's look at your 'simple' logic...

You are suggesting that they need an even number of rookies for the skills competition. 1) why? and 2) even if he were playing, he could still be part of the skills competition (as all participants are), so there is no 'need' that has to be served.

And you are also suggesting (inferring) that they don't need an even number of players for the game. It would seem to me, that it there were any concerns about even squads, it would be for the game, not the skills competition. However, and again, his participating in the game in no way precludes him or limits him from the skills competition, so it's a non-issue to begin with.

If you're going to insult other posters, at least try to make sense.

Sorry to offend you, I should have explained better. I'm fairly certain the NHL wanted an even number of rookies for the "visual" look of the fantasy draft they had. It would have looked pretty silly to bring out 3 guys and have the toews and foligno choose if they wanted 2 guys or 1

Amazing just how some in here simply can't see their offence to this is 100% due to the fact that they have their Flames glasses on and are being over protective of Johnny. Doesn't really matter if the reporter is the best in her class or not, the question was fair, it's topical and totally above board, if Johnny was an Oiler there wouldn't be a single post on this question.

It's a dumb question because this is an event set up by the NHL to showcase their players and give them a bit of personality that the fans can take a shine to. It's not a venue to question players on their financial decisions and licensing strategies. Should they ask Gio if he really banks at ATB?

Also, it's bad form in that it puts a young rookie in a bad spot. He's standing there with all these hockey all-stars beside him and she's asking him about trademarking his name.

As an NHL event, she should have asked him where he got the nickname so that fans who don't know the story could hear it. Heck, it's in Ohio where johnny football plays so she even has an opening line.

Great news. Now I will watch. Crazy to think, if one of us said Johnny would be in the all star game during preseason, he would have been laughed off the boards.

People want to learn more about the players. Johnny has just done something very unusual, and trademarked a nick name. Its very interesting to understand why and what his plans might be, that type of information is exactly the type of stuff fans want to learn about outside of the regular boring hockey questions.

Should have asked him about the origin of the nick name, but not on his decision to trademark it.............. Hilarious. Nothing wrong with either question, people need to stop moma bearing Johnny, despite his stature, he's a big boy now and seems more than capable of handing these type of things. Way too much sensitivity on here about our shiny new toy, he doesn't need kid gloves being applied. Mid he didn't want to answer questions about it (not saying he doesn't) he shouldn't have done it. People complain all the time about crappy interviews and cliche hockey answers but when a report asks a question that might be interesting and might actually be somewhat uncomfortable people freak out about " not the time or place". Sorry I'm interested in all aspects of the game, from on ice, business to players stories, don't think reporters should need to wait for Johnny to go on Market Place before they can ask him this type of question, it's a very unique thing to have done.

NHL gives Gaudreau his own storyline instead of sharing it. Might have been their intention all along, and reporters jumped the announcement.
Regardless - as it should be now, given the other injury add decisions.

So if this is reason for JG getting in.... Is one team still playing one less player?
If so that is still silly

Sometimes the NHL just can't get out of its own way. Right decision in the end (and I would have said the same if any of the other three rookies was added in place of Gaudreau), but they mishandled this the entire way.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Just heard on the skills competition shootout that Gaudreau is going to the ASG tomorrow. So, is the NHL gonna pull him out just before the game starts? Also, is he going to get the car since he should be the last picked?

Johnson has only pulled out of the skills competition, I believe. At least at this point.

Pretty hard to predict a player going as a rookie all-star, then a player having an injury, then the rookie all-star replacing the injured player as an alternate.
