The girl that put johnny on the spot with the stupid "so i hear you are trademarking 'johnny hockey'?" question really pissed me off. You could tell he was uncomfortable, and that was such a stupid thing to throw at a rookie.

I have to think that after the skills competition, they will add a skater (likely Gaudreau based on points) to Team Toews.

Maybe it is true that they didn't want to disrupt the fantasy draft so they kept Gaudreau with the other 3 rookies.

It defies logic that they would skate with only 11 forwards.

For whatever reason it was done (likely more to prevent someone else from attempting to make money off of the nickname), and whoever advised him to do it (agent, business manager, Flames), he's the one that has to be the one to answer to that decision.

It's part of being in the bigger spotlight, especially if that includes the decision to stick one's neck out there, no matter the reasons behind.

As for the game, would've been neat to see, but, oh well. I suspect many here that are "upset" has more to do with the teasing earlier in the day yesterday as if it was going to happen. Having 11 forwards, all who basically the same amount of time (12-15 minutes) and all (outside of the token home towners and the odd fan selection) are all top players, so its not as if the 4th line has a different role then the first line. No one breaks a sweat, is hardly an issue, especially since the coahces change up lines a few times during the game.

The other point of the Gaudreau snub is why are they doing it?

Is it because they think he's not deserving? He has more points than Vrbata, Bergeron, Ryan, and RNH. Plus he is as important to the Flames offense as any of those guys are to their teams.

It's not necessarily the question itself, but it was the greasy way it was asked. It was quite putrid. Almost condescending. Coupled with being on live tv, the situation was the wrong time and place for it.

I agree completely.

What do you expect from a team that not once, not twice, but three times thought bringing up shoes was a good idea. Doughty made a joke and she just wouldn't let it go, it was embarrassing to watch.

No it wasn't. He's doing it, he should be prepared to answer questions about it. Not something very many players do, report was very much in their rights to ask, would have been silly not to.

"Is it true you're trying to trademark Johnny Hockey?" (sticks microphone in his face)

Possible answers:
1) "yes"
2) "umm, yes"

That's some quality 'reporting' there - I can see why some of you are defending it.

(suggestion: how about something like "why did you trademark the name?" That might have been a tad more useful/professional/intelligent)

How else would you have the question asked? You could say the same thing about any other question a report could ask.

Johnny can answer with a simple yes if he wants to be a boring interview or if he doesn't want to get into it, or he could expand on his answer and offer some insight into why he or his camp did it and what they might see as the long term benefits and plans for doing it.

Amazing just how some in here simply can't see their offence to this is 100% due to the fact that they have their Flames glasses on and are being over protective of Johnny. Doesn't really matter if the reporter is the best in her class or not, the question was fair, it's topical and totally above board, if Johnny was an Oiler there wouldn't be a single post on this question.

Your pulling at strws with your recommended reformatting of questions, same #### different pile.

No, the Oilers are a constant topic on this "Flames" forum, but you are right, if Johnny was an Oiler this forum would likely be making fun of him doing this and would have no issues with the question, in fact they'd likely mock his answer to it.

you seem bothered that some people care about this

does it not seem weird to you that you would bother to post about the issue of people being bothered by something that you think they should not be bothered about?

Nope.

That's what happens on this board. Someone has opinion, someone else has a different opinion, debate occurs. This is no different. Don't be silly.

Surprised by the outrage for an event we don't care about. My thoughts?
- Gaudreau doesn't deserve to play in the all star game (yet). He is a great rookie, and he is there for the young stars. I am sure he is fine with it, though would love to play.
- While we think this event is stupid. We have to remember, it's for the kids really. We remember the old (old) all star games as classics, but we were kids and it was a different time when the business of hockey didn't get in the way of competition.

I think what bothers most fans is not that Gaudreau was snubbed. Players that are deserving get snubbed every year.
But it is that the NHL decided to go one team short, they go with the 2 other rookies that Johnny will likely be battling for votes against for the Calder.
They behind closed doors decide to showcase Forsburg and Ekblad but not all 3.
If anything name 3 non rookies then as the replacements but have a proper amount of replacement players. It is not rocket science.
Usually any decision comes with an explanation or at least a why.
I can't see a why? in why did they do the NHL decide this. They just decided we don't really care how this comes across. 1 team plays with 1 less player on the roster.
I don't believe the NFL,NBA, MLB would say meh no replacement player.
It is pretty absurd.

Johnny planning on setting his stick on fire? Lol. Awesome.

Too bad he can't. That would have been epic.
