Jersey toss is alright during TV timeouts or after game, end of periods etc. but not during play.

I'm having a super time with this with a Leafs fan I work with. He emailed the gif of Flames scoring on themselves, to a bunch of people, when they pulled the goalie pre power play about a month ago. Now he doesn't want to discuss hockey.

Agreed. And they shouldnt be banned for a year or charged, thats something the Oilers would do.

@downgoesbrown Jersey-tossing Leaf fans sentenced to solitary confinement. They'll have to sit in the platinums during the first ten minutes of a period.
Leafs home games should be banned from being on national television.

They really ought to be punishing this behavior, not rewarding it.
Guess the question is whether the ban applies to just Leafs games, or to the ACC in general. If the latter, hope they didn't have any plans on attending Raptors or Rock games, or concerts.

I assume ACC as a whole.

Also from the article:

The ban can include other MLSE properties, such as Real Sports Bar and Grill, and would require the fans to apply for reinstatement in 2016

What's the opposite of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick?

a "DiOn"?
getting beat up, and being the reason for having two goals against from that same player?
It's fun to trash Phaneuf but he clearly won that fight over Staal.

That pride probably starts with playing hard, being a good teammate, and respecting your fans.

How do they enforce a ban? Do they circulate photos? Could you put a hat on and just buy a ticket on the 'jij and go?

The point is more that once you are served a notice (banning), returning is considered trespassing which has more legal ramifications. Go ahead and return once banned, but risk being charged with trespassing

probably the same way stores and malls enforce bans on shoplifters. circulate the photos among security and if they get caught press formal and criminal trespassing charges

Ferraro going all hyper sensitive on jersey gate during last nights telecast had me laughing, the corporate shill he is. The fans weren't throwing the jersey on the ice when the play was really in their that end. One did come down but there was pretty much a lone defenceman in the zone and he went around it. Certainly I understand the safety concern of having random jerseys come down during play (plus potentially killing a scoring play), but lets not exaggerate the safety concern here. Broken sticks, dropped helmets, etc etc all happen during play as well.

As for the "sacredness" of the jersey - baloney. Total rubbish. It's a sports team, nothing more. The sport and team means a lot to all of us, but putting a team like the Leafs out there and selling them as gold is more criminal then throwing a damn jersey on the ice. Plus there's a double standard when someone scores a hatrick. Personally, I hope we see more Leafs jerseys on the ice in coming days. Rogers really doesn't like this controversy, but it's something they started the day Burke was fired.

I guess it falls under s. 430(1)(c) or (d).

Maybe to Leaf fans it falls under 430(4.1) as well.
I didn't know it was this serious.

I thought they would just get charged with littering for throwing garbage on the ice.

The reaction from the Leafs on the tossed jerseys is just sad. If anything, they should apologize to their fans for putting such a crappy product on the ice year after year. I guess they love to pick fights with their fans though.

Don't get hung up on the maximum punishment. It's typically a very minor charge - it's what the cops go to when nothing else will stick.

It seams Torontonians are under this wierd illusion that Toronto is more no good than Edmonton.

It would be tough to enforce. They could circulate a picture, but if the tosser had long hair and a beard when the picture is taken and then shaves and gets a haircut it would be hard to pick him out.

Also I would imagine if they had season tickets they would have to forfeit the tickets, but I can't imagine too many jersey tossers are season ticket holders.
