^only thing is he may go way before we step up to the podium, I have liked what I've seen so far, he certainly is handling his first year in junior. He seems to be one of the few who have jumped in the rankings. I don't see the Russian factor being an issue with him as this is his 4th year in NA already, I take that as a sign that he and his family feel his future is here and here alone.

Based on what other people have been saying, rank these guys in the order of preference for the Flames pick: My personal order is below
Ivan Provorov - Excellent 2 way defence man with offensive upside

Zach Werenski - Smart, smooth skating 2 way D

Mikko Rantanen - Big Power Forward RW

Daniel Sprong - Speedy, skilled RW (reminds me a bit of Ehlers, but stockier)

Jeremy Roy - Smooth skating offensive D

Brandon Carlo - Big punishing stay at home D, mean streak

Nikita Korostelev - Pure sniper, RW

Matthew Barzal - Smart skilled center (similar build to RNH)

Nick Meloche - Similar to Carlo, a bit of an agitator too

Pavel Zacha - Strong power forward

I would take the top two D with the edge going to Provorov, just something about this kid that makes me think he's going to be great! He is really catching the eye of the scouting services so I expect him to continue his climb up the ranks.

I would still prefer we use 1st round picks on forwards with high end potential. Always seems to be solid Dmen selected in rounds 2-4.

I feel the same way, but if you can land J. Roy/Kylington/Werenski/Provorov when it is our turn to draft, I think you do it.

The way Provorov is trending up it might even make sense to try to trade up. I think picking any one of those four and giving up maybe a centre prospect is worth it. Instead of having one of them fall to us if we're picking in the teens.

I wasn't too impressed by Kylington at the world juniors. I could actually see Provorov going ahead of him at the draft, although the passport may make that difficult

But considering that he's been over here since Bantam, I don't think that will have as much of a dampening effect as it usually does. Possibly none at all.

It would have been hard to be impressed with Kylington at the world juniors. You could say he wasn't even there.

David Bustyn - scout for McKeen's Hockey
TSN 1260 - Jan 17
https://soundcloud.com/pipeline-show...-burstyn-jan17
C Mitch Marner - 5'11'' 163lbs - shoots R
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=223194 On whether WJC changed opinions on McDavid, Eichel and/or Hanifinno concerns about his size - his brother is 6'2''.has grown 5 inches since he started in the OHLguys like Hudler and Eberle show you can be 5'10'' or 5'11'' with an excellent skill package and still be NHLerseverytime you look at the boxscore and don't see Marner have a 3 points you think he had a bad night - puts 4 or 5 points consistentlyhighly cerebal, patient, puck possession style playermakes and excutes plays at a high rate of speedFlaming: Marner was the most impressive Knight at the Memorial cup last year. Horvat was quiet, Domi was dissapointingwas really good at the Ivan Hlinka and that springboarded his meteroic rise in the rankingsall 30 NHL teams want to get a read on himMcKeen's has him ranked at #4 behind McDavid, Eichel and Hanifin
 LW Lawson Crouse - 6'4'' 212lbs - shoots L
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=205155thought Hanifin struggled a little bit - first time playing at that tournamentwhole USA blue line was young, so maybe thrust into some situations that could of used more experience/leadershipEichel had a hot start but the US fadedMcDavid started off slow coming off injury and when it mattered most he picked up his gameMcDavid has the same "superstar it quality" that Perry and Weber hasMcDavid's stride is the most explosive Burstyn has ever seen since he started scoutingthe stride will enable McDavid to put up more than a point per game numbers [in the NHL]whichever team gets McDavid will see their fortunes turn around quicker than expectedno doubt McDavid will be a NHL star
 C Dylan Strome - 6'3'' 187lbs - Shoots L
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=228107Crouse ranked #5 by McKeen's.Crouse is a powerforward with very good hockey iq in all 3 zones - reason why Team Canada took him to the WJCvery versatile - he can play with better players or can play on the bottom portion of your depth chart and can still producejust a big body that can command the boards down low, cycles the puck, and can make playsonly going to get thicker and strongerscary to think how much better he can becomehas become the cornorstone of the Kingston rebuild
 D Zach Werenski - 6'2'' 214lbs - Shoots L
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=186311Strome ranked #6compares Strome to a Joe Thornton-esque type player - crafty skilled playmakerstill needs to work on his skatingmore of an offensive guydoesn't really play with physical jamalso doesn't play with a lot of pace - main concern with him at the NHL levelat junior he can pick apart defences but with the pace of the NHL....still ranked high because he can manufacture offense - better than his brother (Ryan ) at the same ageStrome will be a point producer in the NHL but McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, Marner and Crouse offer a little more in 3 or 4 years time in the NHLDraisaitl is a little more thicker and stronger on the puck than Strome - but both very cerebal type players, make plays and suck defences to them. extra heightened hockey sense.
 C Nick Merkley - 5'10'' 186lbs - Shoots R
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=107894reminds of Keith Yandlea player that does everything well - no real glaring deficienciesvery safe pickhad a very good WJCbig body 6'2'' 200lbsskates wellgood hard shotJack of all trades at the NHL level
on who he is looking forward to seeing at CHL top prospects gamehas gone ahead of Barzal partially because Barzal has missed time with injuryvery dynamic player - always moving and buzzingnot afraid even though he is a little undersizedunbelievable hands - top 3 in this draft just based on hands and what he can do with the puckalways moving his feet in the offensive zone and comes back to the defensive zoneif you can put the size aside he has the ability to go further up the rankings
D Jeremy Roy - a Letang type defencemanRW Evgeny Svechnikov - really lighting it up for Cape BretonLW Paul BitnerLW Jake Debrusk - most excited to see. smart hockey player that oozes potential

I want us to take a defenceman in the 1st round. It's getting too difficult to trade for a top young defenceman.

Sounds very similar to the scouting reports on Getzlaf at that age.

I've been marginally hoping (only marginally, no one go crazy) to see the Oilers win a few games, so they would move up a few spots and lower they're chances at getting McDavid, but Oilers gonna Oil.
It will be awesome to see McDavid in Oilers colors for the next 10-15 years

I am still hopeful that the Oilers win enough games to not pick in the top 3. Let them be stuck with either a lesser D-man or another lesser center .
