And if Hiller wouldn't have did his best Berra impersonation that may have been enough.

Breaking News: Ortio has his luggage and his contacts. It's all good!

He actually had his contacts during the game.

Montoya being terrible too shouldn't excuse Hiller being worse. Like I said, whether they were good goals or not they scored 5 for him.

Still wouldn't have put him in. Rookie goalie after a brutal travel day and the Flames D playing badly in a river hockey game? Nah. I'd rather lose 2 points than put him in that position.

Good, maybe he should lend his to Hiller.

I didn't know what the fuzz was when the Flames signed Mason Raymond. Was not a fan of the signing but I figured i give Treliving a benefit of a doubt and hope he prove me wrong. Treliving's move in the off-season so far hasn't pay off except maybe Jonas Hiller, who's been good this season but when he's off his game(like tonight), he's just plain bad. Derek Engelland I am okay with except for the amount of the contract is so-so this season but he is a 3rd pairing defensemen so I guess he is okay on my books. Devon Setoguchi's signing is a bust but i didn't mind the gamble. Seto was a gamble for a cheap contract that didn't pay off. Raphael Diaz is a cheap gamble too and like Engelland he is so-so. Trade for Brandon Bollig is not paying off right now as he is inconsistent and been a healthy scratch a few games now. Not expecting much from him and I still think he'll help the team.
Anyways I guess it is too early to call It quits on Raymond yet but he better start producing as a top 6 forwards or even produce as a 3rd line forward. Otherwise make space to players who deserves to be in this team. The way Raymond is playing after the injury, I much rather see Big Ern playing than him.

you are missing the point

Hiller was terrible but the team was also terrible

nobody is excused...its too easy to just put it on Hiller. Team played like a bunch of bums they were badly out shot early in the game when they should have been the team with jump. Not to mention the countless giveaways.

to blame Hiller is giving the team a pass and they don't deserve it

6-11-2 vs. the East now. If we could only play the tough West every night we'd be a playoff team lol.

Unfortunately when Mason Raymond, Paul Byron, and Deryk Engelland are taking regular shifts for your team (and the 2 forwards are regularly on the PP to boot) you are not good enough to be a playoff team.

The 3 Canada day signings (Hiller, Raymond, Engelland) were all terrible tonight and not surprisingly the Raymond and Engelland signings look worse and worse as the season goes on.

Raymond isn't good enough to be a top 9 forward this year, and he sure as hell won't be next year or the year after. Can't wait till he gets Setoguchied.

Utterly garbage by us. Some decent moments going forward, but defensively thats the worst we've played this season. I don't mind getting blown out by a decent team, but to concede 6 to this Panthers team? I get that they have talented guys that are improving. They are no Sabres thats for sure. But seriously, every goal they scored was gifted to them by a combination of garbage goaltending and shambolic defensive organisation.

3 goals let in shortly after we scored?! Blew the lead 3 times. If we don't get our s**t together and fast, we could be returning back to the Dome off the back of 9 game losing streak quite easily.

If this is true then Hartely should shoulder a lot of blame. Every goaltender has a horrible game in a season, this was Hillers. The difference is coaches normally switch the goaltender when they see it happening. Not sure what Hartely saw that he thought Hiller would get it together tonight?

Disappointing game to not win, yet it was a really fun game to be at.

Oh well.

I think the Panthers are a better team than ours... better at overall skill level, puck possession, goaltending (Luongo) etc. Their recent high draft picks are really starting to pay off.

Bad ice tonight? The puck was really bouncing around.

Ortio spent hours in airports and on planes, had no practice time. It could have damaged him.

Just finished it.....not sure what the consensus was around here but my wife, who is a casual fan, figures that even though the Flames (and panthers) played like hot sick....if Hiller would have mixed in a save or two they would have won the game.

I don't see how being put into a game for a period or 2 would be so damaging that it would set him back in his career? Ortio is a trained professional, I'm sure he could have handled it.

Granted maybe Hartely was thinking about putting Ortio in for Vancouver and didn't want to play him tonight.

The Flames are a bottom 5 team. They are no longer getting the lucky bounces that kept us out of the basement for a while.

Other teams coaches have adjusted and can now easily predict what the Flames are going to do. Hartley and his staff have failed to adjust.
