Don't know anything about Shore but from what I've read in this thread he seems like a decent prospect. Kinda strange trade but hopefully works out in our favor.
Wonder what the Flames are thinking long term, Bennett, Mony, Backlund, Stajan, Jankowski,Granlund...... lots of centre depth already, see a move to wing in the future, maybe moving Backlund out? Stajan I see as a difficult contact to move.
I feel bad for Corban Knight ... refuses to sign with Florida, gets traded to Calgary and now goes back to Florida. Knight seemed genuinely excited to sign with us, given that he's from High River and everything. Oh well. Probably became expendable because of how well Billy Arnold has played in Adirondack. Still, good luck Corban.
That being said, I'm excited about Shore. From what I've read about him, he seems like a good pickup with some potential ... let's see what he can do. From a pure asset management point of view, we basically have acquired Shore for a 4th round pick (4th for Knight, now Knight back for Shore). That's not too shabby!
Shore represents something I think Burke and company like and that's size in the bottom 6. It's a nice mix since he's a big playmaking centre who isn't overly physical. He's got a decent two-way sense to his game and logged some tough minutes in Florida last year (~2 minutes of PK/game).
Given how far down Knight was in Flames depth, I'm quite happy with the return. Hope he finds a spot in Florida.
As for Knight, not too sad to see him go because he wasn't really progressing much. He's a good AHL player and he's still kinda young, but nothing in his game really got much better over his time here. He also didn't do anything exceptionally well at the NHL level. Matt Stajan 2.0.

Good chance neither player sticks as an NHLer, but it looks like Shore has a better shot than Knight and more upside, so a smart move. Nice to see Treliving has the channels of communication open to make these kind of deals, that are usually made between GMs with a history.

Shore "checks a lot of boxes for us"
-Size
-Right handed
- Brad called the player "rangy" with an active stick.
- Likes the way Shore thinks the game
- Ok on the face-off dot
- Had spent quite a bit of time viewing this player. Not worried about waivers.
- lots of teams interested in this player.
- A player who was "boxed out" because of the depth in Florida
- will travel to Addy first.
- Brad acknowledged an organizational need for RW especially with a right shot

I will openly admit to not knowing much of anything about Shore (if he becomes a full time NHLer I'm calling him Eddie) but this feels to me like a pretty lateral move. That being said I am glad to read so many positive posts and if Florida fans are all pissy about this then that can't be a bad thing for us at all. So Yay?
I need to say these things because I feel like it's erroneous to keep looking down our noses at the Panthers. They will be a Stanley Cup contender before the Oilers or Sabres get anywhere close to it.
In fairness, the next two as yet unnamed expansion teams will be a Stanley Cup contender before the Oilers or Sabres.
Wouldn't be surprised if he eventually is converted to RW
That's my thought, but why didn't Florida do it? I don't know what their depth is at RW but you would think they would have tried to convert him first?

Love when this is said. Stajan has played 9 years in the NHL and made $22.5 million. If knight ends up like that Florida will be very happy.

Shore looks like an improvement over Knight. It's unlikely that Knight ever becomes an NHL player. Shore has definitely proven more in the NHL and is younger.
