Message to the rest the of team: If you complain, you might end up playing with Crosby or Malkin.

In: Roy, Fraser, Klink-klank
Out: Perron, Arcobello

Looks like deck chairs to me.

In the circumstances, deck chairs may not be a bad strategy. The Oilers got an extra 1st out of it all, and three players who have not yet given up all hope of redemption. When those guys get permeated with Oiler stink, they can recycle them for other plugs.

Maybe what they need to do is start trading their best-performing players when their value is (momentarily) high. This would send a positive message to the others: ‘If you want to get out of this dumpster fire, play good hockey!’

Of course, that would require management to have the brains to recognize that the team is a dumpster fire, so I don't expect them to do it, except by accident.

With this trade, I'm betting it won't be long before players like Hall and RNH start asking about getting traded away.

I mean this Oilers team is probably 3 or 4 years away from .500. Who wants to be the center piece of a loser franchise.

Eichel or McD are likely to become the center piece unless they speak with Eric Lindros....

I wouldn't be shocked if they asked already.

Essentially this is a trade for another bottom line grinder and some magic beans that MacT and crew will likely overrate, rush and ruin. So it guarantees them a seat at the McEichel table in June. Which pisses me off.

I think this video here best illustrates the Oilers rebuild strategies most clearly, especially when it comes to this trade:

Edited to fix my knowledge of what position Klinkhammer plays thanks to Superfraggle.

Probably Tinder.

Klinkhammer is a forward. No defenseman was involved in this trade.

This was a bad trade for the Oilers. Like it or not, Perron was a top six player for them and one of their only forwards on the top lines that gave a #### about winning. They traded him for maybe 40 games of a fringe 4th liner and a late 1st round pick. In the real world that make their team substantially less competitive and will make them less competitive for the next three to five years as that late 1st round pick develops into a player that can compete at the same level as Perron. That is if that 1st round pick turns into anything, which is something you can't count on with the Oilers drafting and development record. Another thing to consider is by time this kid is ready you'll see the core players contracts expiring and them looking for greener pastures. This is a really really bad move unless the Oilers have decided to throw the towel in on this rebuild and begin a new.

Clutterbuck and klinkhammer should have children that marry and contract their names. Clutterhammer or Klinkbuck would be solid

IMO, it's good value for Perron. Did not expect the Oilers to get a 1st outta him.

Let's not blow the draft pick out of proportion. Not all 1st round picks are created equal. The way I see people talking in this thread you would think the Oilers were getting a top 10 pick that could turn into a lottery pick for another crack at an impact player. This is going to be for the 25-30th pick, where they will be very lucky to find a 2nd or 3rd liner, if that pick develops. This isn't a pick that is likely to get any better, it's a pick that has potential to move further down the draft order.

I agree a late first is good value for Perron but if that's what he is fetching I think a 1st for Glencross is wishful thinking.
