I don't want to pile on Nik here , but one last thing I'd say is this; whether it's real life or the internet, you have to be accountable for the things you say. You can't just say stuff, then get upset because it comes back later on. If you said it, live with it. If your right, good for you, if your wrong, then it's OK to admit it. If you like to be opinionated and talk in absolutes to make threads about fourth round picks long and debate filled then go for it, but then accept the accountability for it.

The rest of the NHL is coming to the same conclusion as we have all season.
Can't believe I'm the first to say, 'suck it Healy'!

I'm fine with that and I'm fine with the "piling on" because whatever, it's forum posts not rocks. I'm not so fine with someone who has no record of their own to be taken to task on coming back and posting pointing out how others were wrong. I think that's kind of a jerk move, that's all.

Perhaps it's because the op preferred not to pass immediate judgement and proclaim certainties based on cursory information on a pick in the fourth round and thus, there is no record? And isn't that kind of the gist of the whole argument?

My record from that thread is solid, bow down to my cautious optimism. It's true though, speaking in absolutes when forecasting the future is a bad idea.

Congrats to the little fella.
Nik- not everything has to be about you.
The post that caused you to throw your toys, lacked posters names. I believe it was done purposely so as not to be a phallushead.

This debate on what we thought of Gaudreau on his draft day can go both ways. There was a very small amount that actually thought this pick would turn out great. I mean come on, did we all really think a 5'5, 137 lbs player would turn out this way? Nope.
I also find it a little odd that some were considering this guy a "waste" of a pick. He was in the 4th freakin' round, where the likelihood of any of those players in that round making the NHL was and still is slim.

Mentioned twice in Friedman's 30 thoughts
Quote:
18. Probably the least surprised person in the NHL with Johnny Gaudreau’s recent success is Los Angeles Kings associate head coach John Stevens, who has known the rookie since he was five. Gaudreau’s father, Guy, coached Stevens’ two boys (John and Nolan, now at NCAA Northeastern) for years.
“Like great offensive players, he’s an inside edge skater,” Stevens said. “And he doesn’t just think a step ahead, he thinks two steps ahead… When we’re preparing our team for players they might not know well, I’ll give them another player as a similar example. For Johnny, I use Patrick Kane.”
19. Stevens says Calgary’s system maximizes Gaudreau’s ability to get open because it creates space for him.
“They have a huge gap, like to play the stretch game. Their ‘D’ can pass it out or skate it out, with the centre swinging back for another outlet.” Gaudreau is usually up ice, finding the open space. The Flames have several players who can make the pass, and he can control it.

The draft after the 1st round is a crapshoot. Sure, you can come across gems like Mark Giordano, TJ Brodie, Josh Jooris, Johnny Gaudreau, but actively complaining about any pick after 30 is pretty silly.
|
Don't mean to nitpick, but Giordano was never drafted.

If you are going to nitpick, you should include Jooris in your list.
