Do whatever you want. And screw anyone who wants to judge you for it.

I would agree that it would be considered a jersey fail, so I wouldn't do it myself. However, I would probably wear one of those jersey t-shirts with it for nothing else but to piss off all my friends who are on the side of hating the nickname so much they find it offensive.

I've started to think of Johnny's speed less and fast or with an explosive first step and more as 2 dimensional. Most guys can move pretty fast forward, a few can move just as fast backwards, seldom can a guy move at full speed side to side. His lateral movement is uncanny and when I find in awe of a move he made it is almost always because he side stepped a guy so fast they didn't even realize what happened.

Gaudreau is definitely deceptive. He has good speed when he is breaking away, but a lot of the time his instincts are so good that he doesn't need spend a lot of energy because he is already close to where he needs to be. He is not always displaying his speed, but it is there when he needs it.

Starting after he sat out the first time, has there been a game where he hasn't done something highlight reel worthy? I love how everyone gets on the edge of their seats and gets excited when he has the puck.

I think Burke was quoted last year saying that he considers the Flames as a competitor for all entertainment dollars, and that Gaudreau is a kid that will actually sell tickets. Burke is definitely right on that so far.

Look at the media attention he got today for being player of the week, and it's only going bigger and bigger. Awesome for him and the Flames!

I said this a few weeks ago and I think about it with every goal Johnny is part of... I imagine his "Sherlock Holmes vision" where time slows down and he calculates the play developing before it happens... Like he's aware of everyone on the ice and knows exactly what to do. Then, time resumes and he executes at super speed. And the play ends with the other team sprawled all across the ice and the puck in the net. He just needs a pipe to light up afterwards.

It's good for us to have a player who the other teams focus on. When other teams' D are chasing Johnny around like the coyote chases the roadrunner, it should free up some space for Hudler, Monahan, Glencross, Raymond and our D men. Johnny seems to thrive on having players aggression anyway.

A few years ago, if you shut down Iginla, the game was pretty much over. We had no other weapon. Now, we have multiple ones on the team.

I don't think the nickname "John Holmes" is going to stick.

From Friedman's 30 thoughts:

Quote:
18. Probably the least surprised person in the NHL with Johnny Gaudreau’s recent success is Los Angeles Kings associate head coach John Stevens, who has known the rookie since he was five. Gaudreau’s father, Guy, coached Stevens’ two boys (John and Nolan, now at NCAA Northeastern) for years.

“Like great offensive players, he’s an inside edge skater,” Stevens said. “And he doesn’t just think a step ahead, he thinks two steps ahead… When we’re preparing our team for players they might not know well, I’ll give them another player as a similar example. For Johnny, I use Patrick Kane.”

19. Stevens says Calgary’s system maximizes Gaudreau’s ability to get open because it creates space for him.

“They have a huge gap, like to play the stretch game. Their ‘D’ can pass it out or skate it out, with the centre swinging back for another outlet.” Gaudreau is usually up ice, finding the open space. The Flames have several players who can make the pass, and he can control it.

As of right now, the "lame" post has been thanked 18 times, while the "screw you for judging me" post has been thanked 16 times

As it turns out, someone on kijiji is selling a (seemingly fake) Johnny "Hockey" jersey? After seeing the photo, I think I'm going to pass:

Yeah... Doesn't look so cool.

Is that a kid's size jersey? Looks very strange...

Love Hudler's comment in the post-game:

"Everyone in the room is happy for him. He's like our kid"
