Hoyer sat out Tuesday's light practice with the shoulder injury suffered during Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Panthers. If he's not better by Sunday, practice squad rookie Connor Shaw will be elevated and start the game. The Browns also signed veteran Tyler Thigpen to back up Shaw just in case. Shaw took the starting reps Tuesday and Thigpen got the backup chores.

Aaron Rodgers' calf injury limited him in practice on Wednesday, but it didn't prevent the Green Bay Packers quarterback from playing Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

When Rodgers' offensive linemen -- including the reserves and practice-squad players -- and backup quarterbacks showed up at Lambeau Field, they found 55-inch Samsung curved smart TVs, tablets and Beats headphones in their lockers courtesy of their Pro Bowl quarterback.

Yeah, San Diego is pretty much guaranteed that last Wild Card now. Chase Daniel with a chance to make himself a huge amount of money if he can have a good game.

Apparently, the a section of the pro gambling community moved a lot of money to bet the Chiefs just before the Smith announcement. Of course, the point spread has gone the other way now with the injury announcement, leaving that money at greater risk.

If Rivers or the Chargers suddenly have some new injury issues or "personal matters" in the next day or so preventing guys from practicing and playing, we'll all sleep well knowing that the high stakes players in the gambling community are doing what they can, by whatever means necessary, behind the scenes, to try and claw back some of the points they just lost.

For Browns fans, this can be about the least surprising thing you can hear heading into the final game of the season. For Browns fans, this is just another in a long line of typically negative things that seem to happen down the stretch of a Cleveland Browns season.

The only reason Manziel hasn't been cut is they wasted a first round pick on him. If he were a fourth rounder he'd already be gone. As to Gordon the theory is they're suspending him to prevent him from going to UFA status because since he'll only have played 5 games this year now, it doesn't count towards UFA.

Most Browns part of course is they could have had Odell Beckham, Teddy Bridgewater (or Derek Carr) and Buffalo's first round pick instead of the pick, Manziel and Justin Gilbert (who looks bad). Poor Browns fans, teased with hope this year and now it's back to square one.

Two things: 1. Comparing Manziel to Tebow is an incredible insult to Tebow; 2. Is Manziel literally going to be 1 year and out of the league? Who wants this cancer? Great players can get away with his antics, but a total scrub?

The Browns suspended former star receiver Josh Gordon for today's season finale after he missed a walk-through Saturday, while first-round quarterback Johnny Manziel was fined for being late for treatment after throwing a big party Friday night attended by many members of the club. It's just the latest puzzling decision by both players who suffered, in essence, lost seasons after the Browns entered the season with hopes they might be able to lead the offense.

Gordon will file a grievance with the team, sources said, on the suspension, which, as it takes away what would have been his sixth game on the roster, precludes him from obtaining an accrued season toward free agency.

The pairing of him and Manziel -- whose nighttime activities and work habits and practice performances continue to worry the organization -- is particularly troublesome, and the timing of Manziel's party, and subsequent tardiness of certain players Saturday has not gone unnoticed in Cleveland. Gordon's poor practice habits have been bad for the team, the Browns have actually decreased offensively since he returned from suspension and his performance in games has been suspect as well.

Manziel was also not present for Saturday's walk-through. The Browns had to send security personnel to Manziel's house on Saturday to try to locate him when he was absent from the building, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

It is not possible to have screwed up a draft more than they did last year.
