I would think that the absolute ceiling for Hall would be what the Bruins got for Seguin. Seguin had already had a 29 goal season and looked promising but had some intangible issues.

That being said, the Seguin trade is looking like a repeat of the Joe Thornton deal so maybe the Oilers should be cautious about that.

might want to recheck that

edit: unless you meant to say after he was traded.
in any case he was close to a point a game player in the lockout shortened year

If I were to say there is one player in the NHL whose career Halls is mirroring I would say it is most likely Nash.

Hall's value will be higher than Nash's when he was traded, I'm quite certain.

Both guys have question marks around their attitude/commitment, but Hall is 5 years younger, on a decent contract, and IMO will be a ppg winger in this league for the next 10 years.

He's a great player... he was just developed in a toxic system. The potential is absolutely still there though, just not in Edmonton.

Umm, Nash had more than 58 points in each of the 4 years before he was traded.

This year Nash has 33 points and Hall has 18. Last year was an off year for Nash. Everyone knows this. He's close to a PPG in most seasons. Just like Hall. He's a better defensive player by far than Hall. I've never been a Nash fan. Thought he was a tad overrated. But he's a better player than Hall. Ask Team Canada.

Hall is already on the Oilers so it doesnt really matter. Nowhere to go but up. Literally.

I'd think Hall could net something like Yandle + Hanzal + high pick. Not that I think the Coyotes are necessarily the best match. Maybe to the Isles for G Reinhart and Josh Bailey + pick.

I think the Pens would be interested, but, without looking, they probably would have to send a bunch of salary the other way. If I'm the Oil I look at getting Olli Maata plus a decent guy like Sutter.

That would suck, BTW, because Hall's punishment for being lazy and a locker room problem would be to become Sidney Crosby's linemate.

If Hall is traded, it will likely be a quantity for quality type move like the Phaneuf trade (especially if he's traded during the season). It will likely be centered around a defenceman who can potentially play first-pairing minutes with a few other pieces thrown in with the hope that the sum of the pieces can be on par with what the Oilers are giving up in Hall.

I could see something built around Griffin Reinhart in a deal with the Islanders. Big defenceman, former Oil King Memorial Cup captain, former top-5 pick.

Don't know the cap situation so it may not work but Hall to the Lightning would be an interesting proposition. The Lightning have enough depth to trade and they'd get back an absolutely scary top lie.

Stevie Y looking to push the Lightning over the top?

Jeff Carter also netted pretty mediocre returns twice, and overall I say Carter is the better player (both he and Nash made the Olympic team at a more competitive position). I'm aware Carter's contract may have hindered his value somewhat, but that's where you would think Hall's value would be as well. Although I guess the Flyers did get Voracek for Carter, but at the time who knew what type of player he would end up being.

In the cap era, you're never going to get a players worth through trades. That's why we don't see that many any more. Hall is worth whatever the return is. If he gets back a 3rd rounder, that's his value. If he gets back a top pairing D, that's his value. I think a good comparable would be the James Neal trade to NSH. Both PPG LWers and Neal a player who got back a (at the time) kind of disappointing return. MacT is right, the Oilers will never get what they think is full value for Hall. So they will keep him and thus the vicious cycle will continue. Trading Hall is more about changing the culture of the team then it is getting full value for him.

It shouldn't be hard to conclude from that that Hall isn't worth a player of Jones' caliber.

Let me make it more graphic:

Hall =/= Jones

Jones = player of Jones' caliber

therefore...

Hall =/= player of Jones' caliber.

When pretty much everyone disagrees with you, concluding that they are all biased is not usually the best plan of action.
A Flames message board is probably the absolute worst place to try and get accurate information about Oiler players. Maybe second worst after an Oilers message board.

Going to be tough for tampa to add a contract like Hall, they are right up against the cap.

Maybe a trade involving Garrison, but he is playing well for tampa.

That's actually not true. CP has been right about pretty much everything when it comes to the Oilers the last 8 years.

Every doomsday prediction for that team has been spot on even when the mainstream media kept singing the praises.

Why do u think Oilers fans don't show up here anymore? It probably puts them into apoplectic rage knowing that we were right all these years.

Can't think of a better place to get Oilers info from.

If literally the only defence you have to your position is "wah wah wah, you're Calgary fans, wah wah wah", then you are obviously just a troll wasting everyone's time. And you should change your avatar because you clearly are an Oilers fan pretending to be otherwise.

That one and the one where they get Landeskog were my favourites.

Although Byfuglien, Kane and Lowry was pretty insane as well.

Theres a couple that arent totally insane, but as usual they try to shoe-horn Petry (UFA) and Marincin and even Ference in there in exchange for better, cheaper players.

I read that earlier. Fisher is a poster at HF boards. He's a Kelowna writer who mainly follows the Rockets. These are just some scenarios he made up, and in the comments it's clear that he way overvalues Hall. He actually used the phrase "best left winger in the league" (a big tell IMO).

Flyers got Voracek and Couturier for Carter which is 2 top 10 picks. Great return in my opinion. Columbus got hosed when they moved him out
