Well that is just a horrible thing to say.

I don't think you should get an animal if you want to depend on your kids to take care of it. To me, that sounds like the cat will end up at the SPCA eventually.

I think this is why people are accusing Sliver of trolling. Instead of just saying, "I'd prefer a purebred", he goes out of his way to insult everything else.

I'm not counting on my kids to take care of it; my wife is going to. I've said that no less than 14 times in this thread so I don't understand how you could have missed that.

Trolling because I want a purebred over a mutt at the pound? What are you even talking about? There are hundreds of purebreds out there for sale for hundreds or thousands of dollars. This, despite the fact you can pick up a random tabby for a hundred bucks at the SPCA. Surely you can see I'm not the only one in Calgary that would opt to pay more for a "special" cat versus a "whatever" cat at the SPCA. Hardly makes me a troll.

If you truly cared about animals like many of us do, you would realize there is no such thing as a "whatever" cat.

Despite everything else, I just want to take a moment to thank you for using 'purebred' as opposed to the more often seen "pure bread."

One step up from a "car hole" cat.

True, but there is such things as a "garage cat".

i would argue any cat that isn't mine is a whatever cat. Otherwise I would assume you are adopting as many cats as you can so none of the "whatever" cats get put down.

There are a few people like that but in general a random cat is no more inherently special than a cow.

So why do you think a purebred cat will be better than a "mutt"?

I just don't even know how to respond to this. Really.

You can generalize characteristics within breeds. Of course with a purebred cat you aren't guaranteed to get the characteristics you're hoping for that the breed generally has, but you can increase your odds versus a random kitten at the SPCA that could have any number of undesirable characteristics.

I'm trying to increase the probability of me getting along with the cat, which is a prudent thing to do given my lack of enthusiasm for all of this to begin with.

I think there are a lot of pet owners out there that have put a lot less time and effort into making sure they get an animal that's the right fit for their life than I'm doing right now.

How about: "Good point; I didn't really think of it like that."

I guess you slept through the first 100 posts, but I don't care about animals like some of you do. I definitely don't care about some random cat anymore than I care about the rabbits that bounce around on the street in front of my house. I'm 100% indifferent to their existence. Aren't most of us?

Purebred or not, they all push their sh-t around and walk all over you pillow, counters, kitchen table, etc.

The prudent thing to do would be to forego getting a cat, as stated repeatedly in this thread.

Again, the point is, you shouldn't get a cat if you speak like this. Even if it isn't for you.

Anyhoo...I'm out. Good luck (to the cat).
