Yes, he does. You may not like his voice, but that is at least a more honest statement than "he's boring, she's not".
He does what, sing the anthem straight? I don't know how anybody could perceive his rendition of the anthem as 'straight'. Whether or not you like his version is another thing all together, but I do not believe my point is even debatable. Respectfully if you do believe that mate, then you are out to lunch.
FWIW I also agreed with your statement that they could both be considered 'boring'.
I am a country music fan....that being said, I still don't care to hear Canyon sing the anthem.
It seems a little too contrived.
That being said, there was a woman that sung the anthem last year. She had a definite country flavor, but offered perhaps the best rendition of the anthems I have ever heard.
I did like Annie's voice, and would consider her a serious upgrade.
The first time I heard Canyon sing the anthem, I did not like it. That being said, it was also on a TV broadcast. When I heard him sing live at the Saddledome, I thought that it was very good. I'm wondering how many people who are giving negative opinions have only heard him sing on a TV broadcast?

No It's equally bad live. Every time I am at the game and Willy Joosen is pounding away on the electric organ while George sings the anthem, I look at the person I'm with like " Is this for real"

Her over the top dramatic style ruined the #### yeah appeal of the American anthem IMO.
Anthems should fire people up. I hate when people do that kind of overly dramatic style. It reminds me of how people potato versions of songs on singing shows (not that I have seen many).

Not really mate. That's pretty quiet for a Superbowl crowd during the anthem. Generally when the line "and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air" gets sung the crowd all goes up with a #### YEAH!. Her rendition took the edge of that bomb IMO.
Anyway, whatever, everyone has different opinions. Just thought that rendition sucked.

Hey guys. Lurk quite a lot on the boards and haven't posted in quite some time. I am a professional opera singer (about 3 years into pro contracts after schooling) and I would love to sing at a Flames game or two. Been a huge fan since my family moved to Cochrane from Europe when I was 11 in 1997. Now based in Montreal. Unfortunately, parents now live in Victoria (where I did my undergrad) and my dad has all but given away his seasons to friends and work colleagues. Would need to get back to Calgary to sing for Flames management. Would like to let you guys know I am singing a small piece at Jean Béliveau's funeral on Wednesday at 2 pm Eastern Time. I'm very humbled and honoured. I won't release my name here, just for privacy reasons. The funeral will be broadcast live on CBC News, Radio-Canada, CTV and CJAD 800 AM Radio.

On a somewhat unrelated note, in my opinion, God Bless America is a much better song than the Star Spangled Banner and I always enjoy hearing it before a game.
Just listening should be enough proof, although she does a great job, most times the emotion of the signer doesn't match up the emotion you we hear if the mic was on.
What they may not know is the reason why it was flawless: Hudson lip-synced the anthem to a previously recorded track, and apparently so did Faith Hill who performed before her.
They did so at the request of Rickey Minor, the pregame show producer. Minor told The Associated Press that he insisted Hudson and Hill, who sang "America the Beautiful" before the anthem, use the tracks the National Football League requires them to submit a week before the game.
