I don't need someone who is a #3 now. What I want is a guy under 25 who looks like they will be. Wotherspoon is a definite maybe. But it'd be nice to have few more at his level of development in the pipeline.

Trouble is that you have to find a team with quite a few quality defencemen who are blocking some up and comer. Who does Nashville have in their system?

Dion would make sense as #3 in Calgary as he's not a #1.

Playing behind Gio/Brodie gives him sheltered minutes and lesser competition. Or even 3rd pair. distribute the minutes bit more.

Only if he comes cheap for smid + hanowski something like that.

Phaneuf's contract is more of a reason to stay away from him.

Unless Toronto retains like $2-3M I would hope Treliving is not interested at all. Even then.. meh.

Seems like a big jump for anyone but especially for a guy that played 3 games last year, 45 games the year before and hasn't stood out at any level that he has played.
Really? I haven't been following Adirondack at all so I had no idea he wasn't playing Showed a lot of promise before missing all of last season -- I guess the timeline is going to be a little bit longer on him (if it happens at all).

The only way I take dion back is if we get their first and then we flip him to another team. I don't want him near the Flames dressing room, the music is just fine.

I don't follow much other than reading the threads that Drury et. al put up in the back burner forum. I know Adirondack has too many d so someone has to sit but tough to think they sit Seiloff if he is one of the top guys. I don't remember reading about Wotherspoon or Yonkman sitting but maybe just missed those games.

I'd rather stick with the current defensive roster for 2014-2015 and, instead, pursue a solid defensive prospect that can help jump-start the re-build in a year or two, rather than waiting for 2015 & later defensive draft picks to develop. Ideally, I'd look at a prospect from another team that has solid defensive depth for the foreseeable future.

Madison Bowey would be ideal... I don't really know what the Caps would want in return; it probably wouldn't be cheap. But if the Flames are going to leverage the team's offensive depth, this is the direction that I'd like to see them go.

$3 million.

And if he is only allowed to say "yes Gio" or "yes coach" in the DR.

And no Ghetto Blasters either. Because Leadership is all about taking over the Ghetto Blaster and playing only the tunes YOU want to hear. Am I right?

Leave that Ghetto Blaster in T.O if you come back Dion...

It seems a lot of fans simply don't understand what a proper rebuild entails as you don't drop everything the minute you have a little success and start chasing the moon as that will turn you into Winnipeg/Atlanta or Florida where you are continually going nowhere.
I agree that they should be more worried about the future than today. The Topic is about acquiring a #3 Dman but I don't think that is the biggest need. I only see the Flames making trades for age appropriate targets, guys that have 5-10+ seasons left where they can contribute. That is a reason I think they chased free agents like Raymond and Seto rather than Vrbata (who Treliving had a history with).

One thing that is clear to me the Flsmes likely have a prospect or 2 they could entertain moving for a guy like an Oshie or Stewart (examples of 26/27 year old players that help now and tomorrow). Reinhart, Sven are 2 guys I could see them moving as examples
