In wonder if we could get Meyers for some kind of package.
Ohh…you were so close to going 6 for 6 in the worst name misspelling contest ever!

I'm going to assume you meant Granlund, Ferland, Poirier, Baertschi, and Myers, but really, I'm taking a huge leap there.

I think Russell fills that role pretty well.

He's been solid this year.

Engelland has been disappointing.

If we are serious about being a playoff team this year I think a legit scoring winger should be the priority. If the Flames could add a top 6 RW with size to play with Monahan and Glencross we are in business. Jones has the right makeup but just gets hurt too often and lacks consistency. TJ Oshie would be a nice add or someone with more goal scoring ability.

A #3 D would be nice but I like our second pairing with Russell and Wideman right now.

Agreed, but I think he meant look for players that are 2-3 years away or draft them. Don't deal away players/pick meant for 2-3 years from now for immediate help

The Flames are serious about building a future cup contender. The "all-in" days are over. If the team is still in the playoff mix near the deadline then you may want to acquire a player to help in the stretch drive but it's way too early to be serious about anything outside of following the course that was mapped out in September. It seems a lot of fans simply don't understand what a proper rebuild entails as you don't drop everything the minute you have a little success and start chasing the moon as that will turn you into Winnipeg/Atlanta or Florida where you are continually going nowhere.

I think our 3-4 D are actually pretty decent.

D are at a premium right now - I'd far sooner they look at selling than buying.

We have enough good players. I think they should just keep rolling with them and let them develop.

When all of the injured guys are back what are we going to do with them all if they bring in another forward.

Unless it's Crosby or Malkin I'd pass.

Was going to list all the teams that are looking for a top 4 d-man but then realized I would just be listing the entire league.

You always have to be open to the idea of improving your hockey team.
If you can get a 22-24 year old Dman who is coming into his own, then you have to look at the deal.
I've seen Simon Despres name floated around if the penguins were looking for help to replace Dupuis.
Others have suggested Brandon Gromely, Tyler Myers, Jared Tinordi, or Nathan Beaulieu.

I think if you can get a guy like that for an aseet like Glencross + B prospect (Reinhart) then you certainly have to look at it as it makes your team better now and in the future.

I would like to retain all the guys that have stuck with big team so far, Poirier, and all our picks in the first 2 rounds.
Beyond that I think any other assets are fair game if they improve your team in the long run.

There is, for sure, at least one #3 guy in that group.

I don't know about a #3, but a minor upgrade on Engelland and/or Diaz who could pinch as a not completely out of place as 3/4 pairing would be nice.

And people here are complaining about wanting a #3?
I honestly think Wideman would be most effective as a PP weapon but isolated on the 3rd-pairing in 5-on-5. Smid hasn't been playing all that well lately (though he seems pretty banged-up) so upgrading the 2nd pairing would have a trickle-down effect of improving the 3rd pairing as well.

We also haven't been hit by the injury bug on defence yet. When that happens I fear we'll be royally screwed (though this team continues to beat the odds). Defense is somewhere you can never have enough depth.

I'd love for us to pick up someone like Brenden Dillon, who was just traded to the Sharks. Perhaps Wotherspoon can be the guy that upgrades the 2nd pairing, so we're not desperate yet, but it would be great to add another talented young defenseman.

Seiloff is going to go from healthy scratch in the AHL to NHL in the same season?

Seems like a big jump for anyone but especially for a guy that played 3 games last year, 45 games the year before and hasn't stood out at any level that he has played.

Names that jump out to me on that list:

Matt Irwin

Marc Staal

Cody Franson

Ryan Wilson

Irwin and Wilson may be a bit cheaper to sign but they'd get a good look at top four minutes in Calgary.
