I don't think either is a choice when the regulars get back.
But what has Sven shown you this year to indicate there's some hope? He's been outplayed by everyone on the team except McGrattan and Bollig. That includes Setoguchi.

Wow there are some real Sven haters in here nowadays. It is almost like the kid showed so much promise that people feel real burned by him so have to hate him worse than an ex girlfriend.

The studies on this topic are still in their infancy, but the data so far suggests that it doesn't matter one way or the other. Fights do tend to produce a small increase in offensive zone time for one team, but which team that is appears to be completely random.
In other words, it matters not a lick if your heavyweight "wins" or "loses" a fight. And let's be honest, most of these events end with both players falling to the ice, resulting in no real clear "decision."

I would disagree that Setoguchi has outplayed Sven and he certainly hasn't ouytplayed Bollig.
The only forward I would say Seto has outperformed and should be ahead of on the depth chart is McGrattan, or Ferland if you count him which I don't.
But yes when healthy both should be gone, Setoguchi waived and Sven back to Adirondack.

Setoguchi has played nearly 500 games in a scoring role over 8 seasons in the NHL. The fact that we have to debate whether he has outplayed a 22-year-old prospect (who hasn't developed as we all hoped) speaks volumes.

Don't hate him - I just look at his game more realistically than some here, who make excuses at every turn and seem to think he's some exceptional offensive talent. I just don't see it, and I was hoping for this kid along with everyone else two years ago.

You're dreaming if you think Sven has been better than Setoguchi. There's absolutey no aspect of the game where he's been better - defense, offense, hustle.
And if you think Bollig's played better too, good lord. Bollig has been absolutely terrible. He simply cannot complete a pass at either end, has had no effort and just falls over when skating up the ice.

Seto has both beat in effort, maybe. He gives the puck away on the few times he actually is able to receive a pass (which is roughly 10% of the time), he is out of position defensively, has perfected the shot right into the defenseman's shin pad and takes dumb penalties.
Just by not being completely useless on defense and offense Bollig and Sven have easily been better than Setoguchi.

Now yuou are just making stuff up. Sven is much worse on defense than Setoguchi. He floats out at the blue line. And exactly what is your evidence that he's better at offense? His junior stats? Both guys have been points producers in the past (Setoguchi in this league). Neither has done anything this year. But IMO Setoguchi has had marginally better chances, produiced through superior effort. He has not been a closer.
I can't believe you just claimed Bollig is better at any aspect of the game. The man can't skate. He can't handle the puck. What defensive play has he made? He has terrible positioning.

That's where I see him. Not outside the blue line - just in no man's land. Then he moves to the d-man, too late, moves sotr of to the half board, too late. Stick in the wrong position. Compare blocks for the two guys, playing on the same lines, each night. One guy is in position, one guys isn't.

Setoguchi may not be producing, but he is sure putting a lot more effort out there than Baertschi.

In fairness, Sven may have been sick the whole time. In more fairness, Seto played his bad game against the Canes apparently still hurt from the night before. In more fairness, Monahan and Gaudreau played sick with better effort.

IMO Setoguchi has nearly been given enough of a tryout. The team is nearly at the quarter-season mark. Setoguchi has dressed for more than half the games. He's been outplayed by rookies and call-ups. I don't think he needs more time or we need to asses things more as a team. He's simply been passed on the depth chart by other players who didn't start the season on the roster.
A veteran winger who's playing a limited role for close to league minimum isn't a huge issue either way. But I hope he's waived to make permanent room for the others who have contributed more.

Based on line rushes, it looks like Brandon Bolig and Devin Setoguchi will be scratched tommorrow. McGrattan and Baertschi would return.

Good. It looks like Hartley's staying true to his word that if you don't work hard, you get sat.

Good to see Setoguchi out, not sure about the Bollig-McGrattan switch. Seems s little early to start tanking.
