When I think of McGrattan's value it's when he crashes and bangs in the offensive zone and creates havoc and a little fear in the defensemen. It's exactly what you want from the 4th line and our 4th line hasn't really had it much this year. Bollig isn't doing it and even Bouma is inconsistent with the big hits. I don't want McGrattan playing a lot of games this year, less than 30 sounds right, but he is useful against those big bad California teams that have a distinct size advantage on us.

It's not even necessarily about who is intimidated by him, but rather whom he isn't intimidated by.

When other teams have someone out there trying to goon up our players, MacGrattan isn't afraid to take on anyone. It's useful to have someone like that during some games.

Bollig and Engelland will fight anyone. They did both fight McGrattan last year so I doubt they are worried about fighting anyone.

Bollig averages 1.95 hits per game. McGrattan was barely over 1 hit per game last year.

Perhaps its because he hasn't played in ages or people expected something different from Bollig, but he's infinitely better than McGrattan.

I could link hits of Bollig firing Pardy through the glass last year or beating up Orpik a few weeks ago after he hit Jooris if that is really necessary.

And this stuff about McGrattan being helpful against California teams is ridiculous.

The Kings 4th line is Stoll-Clifford-Lewis, the Ducks is Heatley-Thompson-Jackman. None of them will fight McGrattan (well maybe Jackman would but he'd get tuned). They'll all just skate by him and treat him like he isn't there.

Maybe you could use him against San Jose if they are going to dress John Scott... but that's about it.

Having a guy who you can play 4/5 minutes a game isn't going to help anything against the Kings/Ducks.

Making your team slower and worse is a terrible idea. When had McGrattan scared a talented player?

Going through the clips from last season for my McGrattan video, the only times he wen't after non-fighters were:
  • in the pre-season when he destroyed Michael Sdao after the Senator threw a big/cheap hit on a Flame, and
  • in Phoenix he scared the #### out of Ribeiro who had been going after Glencross during a scrum

I love McGrattan, he's the best at what he does. I do wish he was a bit less "by the books" however as I think he would have a larger role with the team then.

It's a paradox really. McGrattan doesn't really do anything except fight heavy weights, and now coaches just view these heavy weights as moving pylons so they send out their best players as they basically have a 5 on 4 advantage. That's why enforcers are becoming extinct. They're match-up nightmares.

I don't mind Bollig as many on this site. He is a 4th line player with a cheap cap hit. My only problem with acquiring him was giving up a 3rd round pick.
Nucks gave up a third for Dorsett so you could argue that was the going price for a fourth line energy forward.

Like we've all discussed at length, a third rounder has 10% chance of making it so to get an established nhler at that price isn't a bad deal.

I don't think anyone is arguing that McGrattan isn't the best fighter on the team.

I stated clearly that the point is Mcgrattan serves more of a purpose than Setogouchi and that gets taken out of context completely. Mcgrattan is the 2nd worst player on the team but he's not on pace for -60, if his sole duty was to stand in front of the net and push people around he'd be more effective.

Thing is, after watching them both, I'm not sure McGrattan is slower than Bollig. Bollig looked like he learned to skate last week in the game last night.

Point being that he's scarier than Bollig or Engelland. If you don't beleiev that's a factor, fine. But if it is, no one can look at those two "fights" and even have a thought about shcing back in front of the net.

I hope Ramo gets a heavy dose of playing time for the next couple games. Last game for him was a stinker but at least the team won.

Home after a long road trip. Different goalie in net. I think it's a chance to kind for everyone to reset and start fresh and new.

At the very least enough games to shake any rust. And Ramo has played pretty well against the Yotes in the past.

One thing Seto has going for him is that he is a right handed right winger. That's pretty much it. His compete level has been better. But that turnover/penalty last night was bad.

The worst player on the team BY FAR, is Sven Baertschi. I know, I know, he is not one of those "lazy entitled vets" but c'mon. Svens pro rated stat line is 0g 0a 0p -82. He could only wish to have a -60.

So 100 times the suck? Neither one has been any good. Except Setoguchi looks like he tries more. And he does hit more and block more shots.

Sven was sick, maybe in his last game. Setoguchi was playing hurt. That's a tie as well. Neither has created at all.

I'll also take 100 Baertschi's over 1 Seto..

Seto is done. At least Baertschi still has some hope.
