If you check out Average Pts per Game, Marcus Granlund isn't doing too shabbily either.

Not saying he'll win the Calder but if he keeps up this pace, he'll certainly garner some consideration.

Award voting is about as scientific as power rankings are. What is going to matter the most is name recognition, and Gaudreau and Drouin lead in the hype department easily. If Forsberg somehow maintains a PPG pace though, he's going to be a strong opponent.

I think Johnny will need to win the scoring race to win the Calder. Obviously other things can play a factor but to me this is obviously the biggest one. If three guys are close at the end whoever was a bigger factor in their teams success could play a big part as well.

I look forward to Johnny winning the rookie scoring race and panelists bugging Healy about it. Healy should have to wear a Gaudreau jersey.

After watching Johnny Hockey at the worlds I figured he'd be our best forward by mid season.

16 games in I'm ready to pronounce him our best forward. Monahan and Hudler would be close seconds.

By the end of the year I don't think it'll be close. Flames biggest problem is finding players smart enough to play with him. Too bad Bennett's not on the team this year. They will be scary next year.

Monahan's the best all around fwd. What he's doing against first liners is amazing for a 20 year old.

Gaudreau is the most fun to watch, for sure. I want to see how he deals with some of the better teams checking him. His a little less consistent throughout the game (last nite being an option).

My guess is he is gunning for the Calder now that he has found his groove.

The fact the debate is between two kids aged 20 and 22 is great though.

Another thing that's great is that we have two forwards in the conversation. Used to it being Iginla and.........Tanguay? Conroy?

Hudler's been doing great, never complaining and seems to relish the opportunity to play with whatever young forward is thrown his way, I'm a big fan of his leadership. Despite all that though, Monahan has been better then him. Since back-to-back injuries to Backlund and Stajan, Monahan has been thrown right into the fire, playing shift after shift against the opposing teams best players. As a center his responsibilities far outweigh those of a winger, and he's blossomed. He was struggling to start the season, then Stajan and Backlund went down and he recovered and flourished.

*Gaudreau is too small*(Not!)
*Gaudreau will have trouble against NHL players(Not!)
*Gaudreau will have trouble on the road with tough matchups(Not!)

Now it's a concern against better players?

My take, by march he will be the runaway best forward on this team and not really close.

Against Nashville, Hartley was letting him play against Weber and Josi. The next night, Therrien was playing Subban against him.

I'm also starting to think that Johnny and Monahan get identical contracts for the rest of their careers.

Gaudreau produces, whether he's having a great game or just an average game. He finds ways because of his skillset. If we're talking about the top producing forward on the team, odds are it'll be him. Monahan has a very different game and definitely has more responsibilities on him than Gaudreau does currently. And with the way he can put up goals, you might give them edge to him for 'best forward'. Hudler has been very good as well, although I don't think he has been as good as last season. So I'd put the kids just ahead of him.

I was thinking more the systems of an LA. I'm not criticizing or predicting bad things. I just think that's another test to pass.
