I'd be curious to see Xbox earnings if they didn't tie it into the Surface and Windows Phone division. There's little surprise that Microsoft makes insane money, but it's from SQL, OS and Office, not their hardware.
It seems like Xbox lost $400 million last year. So the $35 million profit for that hardware division is all Surface and Phone.

i'm not disagreeing, but those figures are from June and they are from the last full FY. the numbers that i posted were from the last quarter. the microsoft computing and gaming hardware division had gross margins of $479 million; i couldn't see the net income from that but it is probably there somewhere and i couldn't find it.
Regardless of reasons though, one parent company is fiscally stronger than the other.

i was looking for tie ratios for platforms, and although i'm as skeptical as the next person about vgchartz, i found these charts interesting. http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/pla...-Ratio/Global/
Interesting to me were the ratios of where the platforms were selling versus previous generations; interestingly enough XB1 is selling at similar (but not exact) ratios as the 360 across geographies. PS4's sales in North America are 10% or so higher than Europe, where the PS3 was about 20% higher in europe than north america. to me, it says that XB1 so far has been losing North America and i think that sounds reasonable.
PS4 has sold more games in NA than XB1; 1.2 million games by volume on sales of 15.4 million games to XB1's 14.2 million. Interesting figure though, PS4 is selling over 2:1 in volume in games in Europe over XB1 (15.8 to 6.6 million).
The tie ratio is higher for the Xboxes of every generation over the same generation PS globally (including this generation), which speaks to why Microsoft needs to shift consoles.
Interesting numbers which should be well known to Microsoft; i expect discounts on hardware to continue to help shift XB1s. I would also think that Sony would price match as far as they could, however at some point Microsoft can sell the hardware and lose money on every console sold, whereas Sony cannot sustain that.
On a side note, i saw that the AMD chip in the XB1 looks like it will get downsized which will save manufacturing costs and perhaps have those discounted sales from the preceding paragraph not hurt so much.
interesting stuff!

If you have it you are pretty silly to keep it in a drawer IMO. It's pretty good in a family setting as it instantly recognizes who has the controllers and the kids don't mind Kinect sports. Really handy for when the kids are trying to play adult games as it knows it's them and won't even allow them to try and key in my password. Now that I have the white Sunset console upstairs w/o Kinect I am starting to notice the conveniences it brings.

- Biometric sign-in
- Motion control (NUI, gaming)
- Voice commands (VUI, gaming)
- Head-tracking (Forza 5 for example)
- IR control for TV/AVR
- Face-in-the-game
- Controller tracking (user and controller are not tied together)
- QR code scanning (for redeeming tokens, instead of punching in 26-character code using a controller)
- parental control (see EE's reply)
If you really wanted to find out, why not try it since you have one sitting in a drawer?

^Good points. Kinect is almost worth $100 for never having to have to key in codes again lol. My Sunset bundle came with three codes and I was tempted to grab Kinect from downstairs just so I didn't have to key them in as it seems like they are getting longer and more annoying.

You can redeem codes on xbox.com through your pc, mush easier than using an onscreen keyboard and the controller.

Man you really don't try hard to hide your irrational disdain for Microsoft's console do you? It's overall pretty small for crying out loud.

Been playing Sunset Overdrive.
Fun game, nothing game changing or anything but just a really enjoyable experience.
Also it was the first time I had turned on the Xbox in a while. The recent firmware upgrades have really improved the UI.
Have to say that the interface is ahead of the PS4 in terms of functionality right now, although I haven't really given PS4 software 2.0 any time yet.

His irrational disdain is balanced by your irrational need to defend against anything that could be loosely interpreted as a slight.

Just don't put the ps4 in rest mode. I did and it didn't want to wake up. Had to hard reset, and boot in safe mode, and then rebuild the database. Now I have to turn it off just to make sure it starts up again. Hopefully a fix comes out in the coming days as it's rather annoying.

Yeah the game follows the standard open world formula of fetch quests and collecting stuff but it never feels like a chore as the game is so fun to pick up and play and it's got some pretty good humor. The grinding challenges are fun as well. It kind of feels like the offspring of Dead Rising and Tony Hawk. Fun game.

Sure, us "PS fanboys" that say PS fanboy things like "I wish Sunset Overdrive was a system seller so it'd push me over the edge to buy an XB1" and "I don't like the way The Kinect looks with my setup."
Such fanboy, very attack, wow.
Nothing more typical of Playstation fanboys to be people that own and want to own an Xbox, AMIRITE?

Dead Rising meets Jet Set Radio (with Borderlands humour thrown in) is how I just explained it to a co-worker.
