The original AC for Xbox 360 looked better than that.

Yeah, we'll just have to wait to see how bad (or good) it ends up.

I still have to believe that Microsoft will try to do things to turn it around. Master Chief and a price drop in the same month has to do something to the numbers - not just slow the gap grow but maybe turn it around. What would a $100 price difference do?

Interesting that the pace of sales from a "lifetime" and "after initial launch" view. The Xbone had a big initial launch volley but has really slowed down since. Current sales rates are looking to be 6:1 PS4 to Wii U and about 3:1 versus the Xbone.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/1...onsole-market/

Our estimate was that Sony had at least 59 percent of the market share in the battle between the PS4 and Xbox One. Since then, newly released numbers, plus a new look at some assumptions about the Xbox One market, have us revising Sony's share of that market upward. We now think it's in the 65 to 67 percent range.

Regardless, both Wii U and the Xbox One sales have been absolutely dwarfed by the PlayStation 4 in recent months. The PS4 has shipped roughly 63 to 68 percent of all "current generation" consoles in recent months. That's significantly better than the (still impressive) 48 to 49 percent of the shipments that Sony can claim over the life of the current console generation. In fact, the shipment of six million PlayStation 4s from April to September is only slightly below the lifetime shipments for either the Xbox One or Wii U, and that should tell you something about how well Sony's system has been doing of late.

Even with the updated numbers, our overall analysis of the state of the console market is largely unchanged for now. With at least one-third of the two-console market, the Xbox One is still a big enough presence that developers and publishers shouldn't feel comfortable ignoring it. But Sony's dominance over the last six months or so should be worrying for Microsoft. If those sales trends continue—or get better for Sony through the holiday season—the Xbox One could easily end up in the same also-ran sales position that the original Xbox (and GameCube) were in during the PlayStation 2 era.

Finally caved and picked up an EVGA GTX 970. My dual GTX 460's just weren't cutting it anymore and while I kinda wanted to wait for the 8GB versions of the GTX 980, there's no real way of knowing if they'll be worth the extra price premium they'll be charging. Then I read about the GTX 1000 series based on the Pascal architecture and it seems like it'll be a huge jump up from even the 900 series. So I figured a compromise was in order and picked up the cheaper 970, it should be a nice stop-gap and tide me over until 2016 when the GTX 1000 hits

By "turn the tide" I mean maybe slightly better for a couple months...Xbone is never gonna catch PS4. PS4 has some massive exclusives coming down the pipe and they will actually be exclusives...not exclusive for a bit and then better version on on PC.

So what are the odds the Xbox One gets a price cut for black Friday in Canada? The new Sunset Overdrive bundle for $400 is extremely tempting, especially with the Halo collection coming in a couple of weeks, but I don't want to go pick it up only to see it drop by $50 or more shortly after

Tomorrow is supposed to be the day they cut another $50 off the price in the US. Can't hurt to wait a few days to see what happens here.

They've shaved 30% off the price after less than a year. I wouldn't be surprised if they shave another $50 if sales don't pick up through the holidays. The sales gap has only accelerating lately.

It wouldn't stop me but it depends upon your tolerance of another cut I guess.

Apparently people are getting free downloads or Ryse:Son of Rome if you buy that bundle

I'm planning on getting one during Black Friday too. Only thing is none of the bundles interest me and I want a black one. Though I guess I could always sell the game(s) that come with it.

Is there a Forza bundle?
And on that note:
Is Forza good?

I'm dying for a good, authentic racer with a lot of customisation and a huge garage.

Fair enough, though by "bundle" I guess I kind of meant "bundled deal" not "something more expensive than if I bought the sunset overdrive bundle plus Forza 5 separately"

I've quite enjoyed Horizon 2. Excellent balance of accessibility and authenticity, and the open world concept is very cool. It's something I hadn't experienced in a driving game before, but they did an amazing job depicting the southern European locales you'll be speeding through. Night/day cycles, rain, the ability to tear off of the road and barrel across countless fields and forests in search of a risky shortcut, etc.

I rarely use the photo mode in games but I've found myself having to stop and snap some shots every now and again in Forza. Just too pretty.

Edit: I bought Forza 5 at launch last year and enjoyed it also, but don't find the closed-circuit thing to be as entertaining as Horizon's open world.

If you wanted the Kinnect it's a pretty good deal. But it sounds like you're like me and would rather save the $100.

Sony loses $1.2B last quarter: http://www.panarmenian.net/eng/news/...alloon_to_12bn

Microsoft makes $5.8B last quarter: http://www.microsoft.com/investor/Ea...1/default.aspx

I wonder how long Sony can sustain these losses; it has been losing money for 6 of the last 7 years but it can only restructure so many times.

Yeah you have to wonder as they their credit rating is at junk status right now. I just don't see them ever becoming the big player they used to be in consumer electronics. There's too much TV competition now and Samsung and Apple have crushed them in phones. I simply don't see how they come out of this decade unless they develop something revolutionary.
