IMO

Call up Wotherspoon, play 7 D

This would satisfy meritocracy because Wotherspoon is good. Would also make sense from a roster perspective because our forwards are mostly useless at scoring so why roll 4 lines.

The season is still very young. Training camp will be fresh on Treliving's mind & Sven put in a very good month's work. His performance in camp will be fresh on the memory of the bosses. At the moment I'd say his stats on a struggling AHL team shouldn't hold that much weight... yet.

So carry 8 D on the roster and play 7 every game?

Not a fan of that move. Why not bring up Granlund who could potentially hep with the offensive woes

Sven getting called up? That's a laugh. where do you guys come up with this stuff? Granlund would likely be the pick.

In light of the Stajan injury I think you're probably correct.

Quote:
Nothing seems to come easy for Sven Baertschi these days.
It’s evident in a stat line that shows him with two assists and a minus-9 rating in nine games with the AHL Adirondack Flames.
And it’s evident when he turns even the simplest of questions into something complex.
Asked if his latest demotion prompted him to ask for a trade, the 22-year-old winger muddied the waters somewhat.
“I don’t want to comment on these things,” said the Calgary Flames embattled first round pick from 2011.
“There are tons of rumours that can be made up — that’s more personal business. I really don’t want to comment on it.”
A simple ‘no’ would have sufficed.
Instead, he opens himself up for more discussion, which seems to be the only way Baertschi can manage to get into the conversation in Calgary anymore.
Quote:
“First of all, Sven hasn’t requested a trade at all,” said Treliving, who recently spent a weekend with the AHL club.
“When I went down there, he was disappointed and he should be. He’s unquestionably the most skilled player down there but the last three of four games you can see he’s creating chances. Kind of like Johnny (Gaudreau), once one gets in for him he’ll be on a hell of a roll.
“He’s digging in and dealing with it. Honestly, I haven’t been disappointed with his game.”
Quote:
“We said all along if you are playing the best we will figure out a way to get you back up here — Baertschi’s in that mix,” said the GM charitably before being asked about the glaring plus-minus number.
“They’re a really young team. You’d like him to be plus-9 — it’s not perfect by any stretch — but stats can be interpreted a lot of different ways. It tells part of the story. Everybody looks at the points but parts of his game have gotten better — the challenge for him is to stick with it.”
Quote:
“Everything is fine,” said Baertschi, the first prospect in years to get Calgary fans jacked up when he set the bar impossibly high by scoring three goals in five emergency call-up games in ’12.
“I’ve always been and always will be a point guy, and I feel like it’s coming. They’ll come — I’m not too worried about it. I’ve had a lot of chances. I have some experience being sent down, and every time it feels the same — you have to adjust your whole game to it. It wasn’t easy but I feel I’m adjusting well.”
Quote:
“He’s getting better is what I can say — (Wednesday) night was probably his best game,” Huska said of Baertschi’s one-assist effort in a 7-6 win.
“In regards to feeling sorry for himself, I won’t go there. I think his attitude is good. He’s digging in and he’s staying after practice. He’s trying to fight through it, and I expect if he keeps playing the way he played last night, the points will come.”

What a brutal article. Why would you even ask him if he asked for a trade? Oh right, because it's well known that Sven is the type of guy who doesn't give 1 word answers and there's a story to be created about nothing.

I disagree. I think he's contemplating that scenario more and more these days. Pure speculation on my part, but he doesn't seem happy with his situation, but is trying to tough it out and work through it. There does seem to be a lot of speculation on a "no comment" from the reporter.

Typical Eric Francis B.S.

The rest of the article is pretty good but let's focus on an answer from the day he was sent down that has been clarified by himself and the GM since then.

Then his GM and coach praise him but let's focus on the negative.

A trade involving Sven should definitely be considered at this point. I don't foresee him as providing much to the Calgary Flames and the team has other young prospects who appear to be better options for the future.

Francis has been an idiot for years. One of the main reasons I avoid reading any sun coverage of the flames. He's worse than cox and that's saying a lot.

Some fairly dumb, pointed questions in there.

Really why would he say he doesn't want to comment when a simple "no" would put the question to bed? It certainly seems like he's becoming frustrated with his role in the organization. That said he has no leverage and the only way he can really force the Flames hand at anything is to play better to the point where he's clearly the next man to be called up. Right now his trade value isn't very high and I don't think the Flames are going to sell low on a player whom they have invested considerably.

Because that's just the way that Francis rolls. Pot stirrer extraordinaire

Sven already seems mentally fragile. I hope the media in this city makes him tougher and doesn't further crush his confidence.

A 'no' would put the question to bed? Like when Trevling said a couple sentences later how Sven never asked for a trade, which I interpreted as a no, yet there is the article. When did a no ever stop speculation? See Iginla for more info.

I too agree that Sven seems to be questioning his role and I honestly think he will be traded at some point. But it just seems the media has this mandate with him where there is this need to constantly bring up how he's fallen down the depth chart. I just think they need to lay off the guy, is all. That article did nothing other then to continue to fuel the fire with the same comments we keep hearing over and over again.

And from Huska's comments, it appears someone directly asked him if Sven is feeling sorry for himself.

I still have faith in Sven. He looked great in the pre-season.

It's all mental for him, and if he can get some confidence back he will explode.

I think he's aware of the Swiss tabloid article. The comments they printed from his dad are probably true. Even if he didn't ask for a trade himself, he doesn't dismiss Francis' question entirely because of this.

I prefer our media to the guys in Edmonton, who are essentially PR flacks for the Oilers.

When Francis went out of his way to comment on Sven during the last flames broadcast I knew this article was not far behind.

I really hope Sven gets another shot in the NHL soon and I think he will if he keeps on giving his all at the AHL level

Sure, I think most would agree with that. Doesn't mean Francis doesn't suck however.
