Wow, this is some old school stuff. From that wikipedia page:

Subsequent to his conviction, his uniform was burned, his medals were destroyed and his vehicle crushed and scrapped.

I like that they took these steps. Burn the son of a bitch and his "legacy" (such as it is) to the ground, but it just seems like something from the old days.

As for Ghomeshi, it just keeps getting piled higher and deeper for/on him.

He cultivated a very convincing "I'm a sensitive/harmless little nerd" persona, but a couple people come out and the whole thing collapses (or burns down) basically overnight. Kind of creepy, really.

For this reason alone, I believe the women who have come forward to the Toronto Star and the CBC, if anonymous, and said that he hurt them. That he abused them. That he did horrible things to them without their consent. “So why no police charges?” Green Party leader Elizabeth May said, though she apologized and took it back soon after. She wasn’t the only one asking that, though. It was one of the most common questions of the day.

Yeah, well. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if I was harassed, assaulted, if I was flat-out raped, I would not go to the police. Not unless I wore clear scars from it, not unless I was bloodied or scraped. Even then, only if it was a stranger. Only if it was someone who slipped out of the darkness and had no other power over me. Someone who, if and when my name filtered out, couldn’t take my work and friends away from me.

God, we ask so much of victims. On one side, we tell them that the price of our belief it to spend a lifetime chained publicly to an incident they usually want desperately to escape; we tell them that the price of our belief is that they make their name public, or take it to police. If they pay that price, we don’t believe them anyway. Instead, we simply charge them with trying to make hay.

No, I wouldn’t make my name public, and I wouldn’t go to police. I would never want to watch those prying eyes turn on me, inventing for themselves a fiction of the “jilted,” vindictive woman that Jian Ghomeshi pre-emptively declared at least three of his ex-partners to be.

People bought that, you know. Hook, line and sinker.

Coming from an actor I really have zero doubt what she is saying it's true. Coming from someone anonymous there are always questions if it is in fact a jilted ex but this solidifies it for me. I hope he gets punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Well at worst he's now a social pariah, nobody will hire him again, he'll end up buried and forgotten and working in a music store somewhere for minimum wage.

At best he'll get put in front of the courts and have to face his victims.

The guys an outright creep, and it sounds like he's a sexual predator. Hopefully there's a jail cell waiting for him at some point.

Interesting, there is a tweet implying that there is a video of him punching someone in the head.

To be honest that's the part I'm expecting, it strikes me as hugely unlikely he's managed to limit himself to just choking and punching his victims.

This is terrible stuff.

I wonder why he released his facebook statement now. There was a possibility none of this would have became public if it weren't for that. From the few headlines I've read he has little chance with his lawsuit. Just an out of control ego?

My guess is that he was advised to release the Facebook statement by his PR firm, but he didn't tell them the full story. I think that's especially likely if the rumours of Navigator dropping him as a client are true. First rule of crisis management: always tell your PR team the full truth so they can best help defend you.

Some sort of delusion, I imagine.

Even report of the event that occurred with "the one/teddy bear," if it happened exactly as stated, speaks a lot to a sort of delusional grasp on reality.

The BDSM/potentially abusive stuff is one thing, but the fact that a partner can say "I don't like that" and he shrinks down, laughs, tells her to leave, and then completely shuts down and occupies himself with someone else while she's leaving is almost more concerning. I'm not sure the term that would be describe it medically, but there's obviously an imbalance there. Borderline sociopathic maybe? Something like that.

I'm not sure, the whole idea of releasing it on Facebook with the 'I'm going to sue their pants off' part struck me as very un PR like.
Those guys tend to like carefully crafted short relatively neutral statements and save the longer more admissory stuff for a carefully scripted 'mea culpa but not really' interview with Oprah

If that is true, is he trying to flee the country, to prolong extradition? I think it is only a matter of time before the RCMP convince some of these women to press charges. Statistically speaking, the fact that only a fraction of his victims will come forward, the true number of victims could go into the triple digits. This guy needs to be put away for at least 15 years. He is obviously not going to stop victimizing women.

Reading the Star article on the 8 women...it honestly read like an episode of Law & Order SVU.

I hope those who were quick to question the victims are doing some real reflecting right now. Ridiculous that it takes 8 women for everyone to come around.

I don't know if this applies to me or not but I will admit to questioning why they are giving these statements to the media and not to the police.

In fact I still am. Why are these women not giving police statements but willing to speak to the media?

Do not confuse the above with disbelieving them.

Clearly you should to reflect a bit more, perhaps read the many articles about the problem for victims of sexual assault to go to the police. Maybe try to imagine yourself in their shoes? Maybe just get more educated on the topic?

Clearly you should take your own advice and mind your own business before judging and maybe consider that I have had more closer experience with a victim of sexual assault than you will ever know. And that the individual went to the police and through the justice process hence the questioning.

But, sure buddy. I'll bow to you and the "many articles" you have read.

Answer the question then. Why are these ladies preferring the media over the police?
