CBC Radio is currently interviewing a Parliamentary staffer who was an eye-witness to the shooting.

Staffer described the shooter as a dark-haired "I think Caucasian" in his 20s or 30s.

Said he had either a rifle or shotgun (she claims not to know much about identifying firearms).

Describes the shooter as wearing "nondescript" clothing.

I believe the link Madman posted earlier had audio where another staffer (?) was explicitly told it was a shotgun.

Construction Worker on the Hill said it was definitely a shotgun. Saw that about 2 hours ago, can't remember the source.

It certainly sounded like a shotgun in that Globe and Mail video.

Said the shooter appeared calm, was walking (not running). "There were tons of people around. This was not indiscriminate. He walked right by us."

Main Reddit (worldnews) thread has a possible image of the shooter, but I won't post the link. Completely unconfirmed and speculation.

That construction worker was very specific and called it a double barrel shotgun and also confirmed a shotgun and not a rifle.

Yes it is, but you go through security screening to get in.

At least the few times I've been you had to.

And there is always a couple of RCMP stationed at the entrance.

CBC: Ric McIver was actually pretty close to the guy when he got out of his car. Took off the other way when he noticed what was happening.

October 22, 2014

Due to the events happening in Ottawa the ODMHA (Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association) has cancelled ALL hockey in the district for Oct 22nd, 2014. This means ALL games, practices, clinics, etc.

Unless otherwise notified, hockey will resume on Thursday Oct 23rd.

For more information, please see the ODMHA website:
I can imagine a lot of everything being cancelled tonight.

Most especially after turning to CNN for only a couple of minutes.

Sounds like security at Parliament were incredibly swift in subduing the gunman. Its hard for me to comprehend what the family of the fallen soldier standing guard at War Memorial is feeling, my thoughts are with them.

I think this could have gotten much more out of hand if not for the brave actions of the security personnel at Parliament.
