Sad day for this great country.

Condolences to the Soldier's family.

What sick and coward mind, thinks up such an act?

The CBC gets a lot of #### from the "rabble rabble taxes" crowd. But I'm always glad we have them as a news and radio source.

Neither did the car driver.

Too soon to make that judgement.

I heard it was reported on CNN that there was no link, I can't find that anywhere on CNN.

I agree that it's too soon to make any judgement. But as far as it being on CNN, it's in the first paragraph of their 'breaking news' feed:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/22/world/...tawa-shooting/

edit: the story was reorganized and it's no longer first paragraph, but still there:
"The Canadian government has informed the United States that one shooter is dead in Ottawa, a senior U.S. official said. So far, there is "no indication the shooter has ties to violent Islamic extremism," but it is still extremely early in the investigation, the source said."

yeah i don't know why. We need a public broadcaster.

If I want to watch US shows there's CTV but if I want to watch Canadian shows, I watch CBC. Yes some Canadian shows are good and CBC Radio is good too.

Delaying what? The "official" release.

The FBI is helping Canadian authorities as they respond, a U.S. law enforcement official told CNN, adding that a connection to terrorism hasn't been ruled out.

That doesn't read that there is any certainty.

Yeah, although after reading all the other posts it appears he is dead.

I was just holding out faint hope.

Oh I'm not making any judgement, just relaying what was said, yes it was on CNN.

CBC: Toronto Maple Leafs are staying in a hotel on top of the Rideau Centre, some players reportedly heard gunshots.

What I'm about to say is horrible, because any death as a result of this bull#### is too many, and it still shatters a family. However, if these events are our versions of the London Bus Bombings or the Madrid bombings, we are fortunate. It could be so much worse with relative ease.

Lets hope it stays this scale and doesn't increase.

Yeah, when I searched it wasn't there and when I went to their twitter feed it wasn't there.

I'd heard from multiple posts on various different sites that the Canadian Government had held a high level briefing with the American government and said there was no link to Islamic Terror Groups. The phrasing above is a lot less hard on that point. Its more along the whole we're not sure, we're not ruling things out.

I appreciate you finding it for me though.

I'm hoping the same thing.

But part of me is saying that I'm looking at the clock and its still only 11:51

As a former regular force soldier and a current army reservist my heart goes out to this soldiers family. The members that guard the tomb of the unknown soldier are usually reservists who volunteer on days off from their full time jobs or school to stand guard in honour of those who died before us. What a sad sad way to go. We are being told to not go out in public in our military uniforms... Imagine in our own country.

And as for the poster above derailing the thread blaming Harper, I have some very choice words for you but I don't want to get the ban hammer! This is not the time or for such ignorance.

Amidst all of the media coverage and information overload, I'm glad Peter Mansbridge is covering this - his voice and words alone has a calming effect despite the chaos. Always has.
