All I am going to say is it should be Calgary. No other fan base deserves it but us. We just barely had our first top 5 pick in franchise history. I think it is our turn to get a 1st round OA pick.

All I know is, we will end up with someone super talented in the top 3 (unless Toronto wins it and pushes us down to fourth where we select a bust.. In which case I swear off sports in general and dedicate my life to proving conspiracy theories are real). I'm not hell bent on McDavid; sure, it would be amazing and I know I'd buy a jersey and love to goad the fact our first overall holds more value than edmontons combined over rival fans ..

But I'd rather see more of what we saw last year, a team that may not be great, but doesn't quit and is fun to watch.

That's not how the draft works though. It's not an all-star game

4th overall was enough of an indignity

Never said that that's how it works. It would just be nice to be rewarded hard effort for a change rather than teams tanking. Obviously, hard work ethic > McDavid, but it'd be great to have both.

Hidden from whom? The general public. It is a well known and oft repeated fact that the 2005 draft lottery was overseen by a well respected accounting firm, and personally attended by representatives from every team in the NHL.

There is and never has been any draft lottery conspiracy. A significant number of NHL teams simply would not stand for it.

I don't think Calgary will even end up in the top three. They certainly will be better than Buffalo, Florida, and Carolina, and it is looking likely that they will be better than Edmonton and perhaps even Winnipeg or Toronto as well.

It's early, but all of these teams are really, really terrible.

Calgary, Bettman thanks Murray Edwards for his work with the CBA negotiations.

living around it now and forced to listen to talk radio on travels. I am pretty sure that this environment would ruin any gift thrust upon Leafs. N.Y. can have similar effect for different reasons. They are no good as isn't this thread.

I don't believe that is completely true so I'm asking for a link.

My understanding is that the bottom six teams got to watch. I remember when the teams were called as their draft order came up that Darryl was dissappointed when Calgary was called (26th?) and Lowe had a big grin on his face until the Oilers were called next.

The reason why GMs were surprised by the results was because they were not the reps. present for the actual lottery itself. The lottery took place at NHL head offices following a BoG meeting, and I believe that the attendees were the actual Governors or their own representatives.

This, not to mention Calgary taking in Brian Burke and providing him a place in hockey. Also we deserve a big thank you from the league for all the work Harley Hotchkiss did with the Board of Governors.

Calgary gets the conspiracy theory lottery win.

Arizona gets the pick. League moves the team to Ontario.

I always get a chuckle out of the conspiracy posters about the draft. Do you guys really think the other owners and GMs would just sit there and let that happen? They would all have their big name lawyers out , demanding action against the NHL, if they thought something was a skew.

How big is Pittsburgh? It's been in a recession since like the first world War because of the steel mills closing. Saving a franchise seems to trump market placement. Even with Kane, how was Chicago drawing before him and Toews showed up?

Of course, all of this presumes that the NHL selected the draft destinations for these players beforehand, which is nonsense.

Which is why the thread is titled conspiracy theory with a disclaimer at the front. It's fun to speculate what-if's, and you have to admit that a few players in recent years have landed exactly where they "should" have been for the benefit of the league
