This is awesome. I have the Capital One Aspire Card (which I love) and have lamented the fact that I have to use stupid AmEx (which is accepted at a shockingly low number of places) at Costco. My point totals are going to sore.

I wish I would have figured out that MC was acceptable awhile ago... any idea when that started?

Costco was my #1 place for getting minimum spend for Amex cards I was churning for points:

Get the card, buy Costco gift cards (to be spent on groceries over the next several months), receive the sign-up bonus points (usually enough for a flight anywhere in North America), cancel the card, repeat 6 months later. I got hundreds of thousands of points that way.

So I'm super bummed -- I'm not sure where else I can reliably make those spending amounts on an Amex without Costco! The Mastercard options just seem so poor in comparison. Even at a decent cash back percentage, it's just not the same.

Will likely pick up the MBNA Smart Cash card, I guess. Better than nothing, and better than the Costco-branded card will be.

If you fly on WestJet a lot with your family, I think the one $99 companion fare per year puts that card over the top. Plus, they don't charge the new baggage fee if you book a flight with your card.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Costco accepted Mastercard until only a few weeks ago, probably after they announced the switch. I first noticed it was an option when filling up gas at Costco last month.

For those with MBNA Smart Cash - does MBNA classify Costco spend as "Groceries"? or the lesser "General" category where you only earn 1%

I will be getting this one. I have a few friends with it, and they really like it.

I was thinking about the Westjet card too, but we have a TD Travel Visa already and I don't know if two travel rewards cards play nice together. (doubt you can use two at once for redeeming things)

I would think they would be treated like Walmart and not be considered Groceries, but that's just a guess.

BTW, MNBA is really pissing my off with the maintenance they did this past week or so. They are asking you to re-enroll your credit card using a different user name. Ok fine, a bit annoying, but the problem is after going through all the steps to re-enroll it fails saying the system is unavailable.

I'm somewhat hesitant to go with an MBNA card - comments like Fires and others you read around the web suggest that TD isn't putting a whole lot of effort into the legacy MBNA Cards and site. Kind of sounds like they'll be absorbed by TD sooner or later.

Yeah, I'm cancelling my MNBA card once I get my next $50 cheque (which is a stupid way of providing cash back btw). I re-enrolled with MNBA and it finally appeared to work, but when I log into with my new login credentials it fails and now I am locked out. FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU MBNA.

I will be applying for the Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite. It has a $99 yearly fee but you get 4% cash back on Groceries and Gas so it evens out. Based on my calculations I should get slightly more with the Scotiabank card. Also they provide you with your cash back directly on your account once per year. No stupid cheques.

But, that's a Visa and not a MC.

Right, and Costco effective January 1, 2015 will only accept Mastercard

Sorry I should really be posting in the other thread. I have no interest in shopping at Costco so it being Visa doesn't matter.

Nope, no Costco MC but as soon as we heard about the changeover we applied and already recieved our Westjet World Elite card.

The companion rate and free bag sold me. Plus I like being Elite!
