More than anything I'm just glad that hockey was back. Happy with Johnny and Engelland for their part and no one looked too terrible. On to the Oilers!

Ref blew the call at the end with the slash on Bouma and "hand pass"
and this new camera technology always comes along just in time to screw the flames over

Disappointing, but positives to build on. Worked hard, kept it tight. Probably sounds bitter, but the Nucks got a bit fortunate tonight. Some dodgy calls(not including the 3rd goal I might add) went their way, the 3rd and 4th goals were pure fluke.
Could look at it and say we scored the same amount of even strength goals as they did tonight. Roll on Edmonton tomorrow.

No call on Bouma getting his stick broken from a slash at a key time in the game? I still don't buy that there was 100% irrefutable evidence to overturn the call on the ice which turned out to be the winning goal. There have been far worse officiated games but this one wasn't that great from the Flames point of view as all the breaks went to one team.

Box scores show only one shot on net from Gaudreau, that can't be right. He whipped one off of Miller's mask and am sure he had other shots as well.

Not a huge Hiller fan but he was more than solid. Definitely better than McDonald of Berra from last season.
I am a supporter of Wideman, but not for much longer. Is Diaz available?
Glencross? Opinion seems split 50/50 about him tonight. He was the better Glencross tonight. Lot more effort. Still can be lazy and stupid at times, but as long as the effort is there he can play well. 3million dollar player cant complain too much!
Where were Stajan and Raymond tonight? Absolutely invisible!
Monahan, was supposedly sick but still played. Didn't look to bad. Love his new size, engaging physically a lot lot more. Awesome.
Gaudreau had one bad shift coughing up the puck twice. Yet he is an amazing player, it will come.
Line combinations? Colborne at center is just wrong!!!!!!!!
I expected a loss so I am not disappointed. Wanted a win though!

Good push back by the Flames in the 3rd period.
Faceoff stats are getting better.
We gave the Sedin line too much space.
Need to do a better job of clearning men from in front of the net.
Gaudreau started to show his skills in the 3rd.

Does Mason Raymond remind anyone of Blake Coumo? Hopefully just First game nerves but he seemed lost out there lots of plays died on his stick.
Really like Russel, Gio and Brodie's game. Backlund looks pretty good for missing most of camp.

He held the stick of the defender who was chasing him on that empty netter I believe.

Thoughts:
- Johnny looked great for a rookie. Lots of work to do, but fun to watch. Outstanding in open ice, but a mere mortal along the boards.
- Backlund was fantastic once he got going.
- Gio and Russell were the best defencemen easy.
- Raymond looked dangerous with the puck, had some good looks.
- Hudler was WAY too focused on breaking the D. Sat cherry picking to an almost annoying extent, and likely cost some good chances instead of helping create them.
- Brodie and Bouma seemed pretty invisible. Not bad, just meh.
- Monahan looked absolutely bagged
- Engelland played well considering his role.
- Wideman was bad. Bad bad.
- Hiller was solid. Not flashy, just solid.
Overall, alright!

Decent game overall. Johnny and Backlund with some decent flashes. Can't understand why they keep trying the long stretch pass coming out of the zone when it only seems to connect 1 out of 5 times and the winger who gets it is always at a standstill. Hope the find a better scheme.

One game not that ticked off about it. Flames is still working on their kink. Forwards looks out of the sync earlier and didn't get a lot of second chances.
Gaudreau started slow but finished up strong. Looking forward in seeing him tomorrow against the no defense Oilers. Brandon Bollig surprised me tonight. I thought he played well and was physical. His game tonight was like night and day compare to pre-season. Mason Raymond was okay but you can tell he is a bit out of sync but I am sure he'll get better soon. Backlund was the best centre tonight.
Love the telecast tonight. Good setup, Romanuk and MJ was good. Man, even the intermission panel was okay and of course I like that bright setup they have. Hope to see more telecast by Sportsnet this season.

I hate that Vey is a Canuck!
Johnny got more confidence every shift, gonna be fun watching him this year.
Kinda what I expected from this game, solid effort, but the Canucks alway squeak out wins against us.

Canucks deserved to win, but in recent history that was as (relatively) bad as I remember them looking against Calgary. Didn't see a lot of scoring depth there, with Bonino doing nothing to show he'll be a real option to centre a second scoring line.
Man, has Edler's development nosedived!
Wideman. . . . It's like he's trying to make poor passes. Constantly landing his partner in trouble.
Glenncross being Glenncross with an unbelievably lazy high sticking penalty, then showing nothing but brief flashes the rest of the game.
I liked Raymond and Backlund's games - skated hard, hounded pucks in the offensive zone, moved the puck through the neutral zone mostly efficiently.
I've crapped of Stajan, but thought he was very effective in a 4th line role. He, Bollig, and Ern actually turned the tide of momentum on a number of shifts.
