A few bad bounces tonight but, ultimately, the better team won. I do hope this is the high-water mark for the Canucks in the early season games and that they are beaten soundly and in all measurable ways, especially physically, from here on in by everyone they meet. They are still an eminently unlikeable team.

I don't think Backlund should have taken that face off.

Not a great game but hard to take a lot from the first game of the season. Kind of a typical game between these two teams where it's a lot of hard luck for the Flames and the Canucks don't really break much of a sweat as all the breaks go their way. The officiating was a little one sided as the Canucks got away with obvious penalties. Not sure how they couldn't see Bouma get his stick broken on that slash as it was right in front of the net and puck. Gadreau looked pretty good.

It actually went better then I thought it was going to go.
Good showing for the first game. Bring on the coilers.

Flames didn't get a lot of breaks around the net.

You can really see the drop off on the blue line when Gio and Brodie aren't there.

On the positives Johnny Hockey comes as advertised, took a hit to the numbers and a brutally missed hold in the later part of the third.

Monahan looked good.

Lots of work to do.

Vancouver looked good in the first two periods and not good in the third.

Nothing new here, Canucks get every single bounce and call.

I still can't get over that Sedin empty netter. Such BS. Anyhow Johnny is a wizard.

Calgary didn't play bad at all, still a major lack of skill on this team... Unfortunately.
On a high notes, Ls really aren't Ls this season; while I of course will be cheering for my team to win... I won't be losing sleep over some lost games.

Hate Burrows, Sedin and Bieska's faces still. Ref cam is awesome, especially the bit where Tim Peel was saying bye to Heather in the hallway. Good to see the Flames dominate on the faceoff. Wish the team played more physical, but apparently we had the lightest team average of all the teams playing. That stat makes me sad. Also hate how there are so many Canucks fans in the audience. Disgusts me when I hear them cheer for a goal.

From the angle it was shown it looked like that puck was dropped well over on the CAnucks side but that could have been the angle.

Flames weren't that far off. Hiller was fine - a tipped in PP goal with two guys standing right in front of him, a weird fan/pass that went right to caveman, and a bunted in highstick goal. Not his fault.

Great game by Johnny and really his whole line. Best Flames line on the ice.

Nucks better put in better efforts than that against the Cali teams, or it will be another season out of the playoffs for them. Sedins and Vrbata looked pretty good, Burrows is still a goof.

In my mind, this is the story of a team that's going to be on the way up, against a veteran team with a tiny window.

Preface: I would be very excited if we got him.

We aren't the Oilers, so can we please not celebrate McDavid every loss?
