What's Jankowski's status? Why isn't he at camp?

I'm just savouring the feeling of having so much prospect depth at F that our biggest concern is not having room for all of them!

Even if that vet laden lineup posted above is what's iced to start, the planes between Addy and YYC will be busy this year. I wouldn't sweat too much about who's "in" and who's "out" right now. It will be an ongoing rotation with chances for rookies to prove themselves over the marginal vets (and be mentored) all through the season.

That being said, as a selfish STH, I really hope we have a prospect-heavy roster right from the beginning.

D-men would be the same and I'd probably start Ramo over Hiller (although really they're 1A and 1B).
Again, kids ?!?!

Jankowsi, Gillies and Hickey are all NCAA players and cannot attend main camp. They're in school ATM.

I don't necessarily agree about sending Jones down. But should that happen, we're about $4M over the floor. Another body would need to be on the roster if he goes, which would be just under $1M in salary. So we would be over the floor by the amount of the player who replaces Jones on the roster.

Gaudreau has arguably been the "best offensive" player in terms of generating chances. He hasn't been the "best player".

Also, he had his best game last night, but it was pretty much an AHL roster the Avs iced.

I do everything I can to free up space to play 2-3 rookies regularly (my preference would be Gaudreau & Sven in top 9, Ferland on 4th line) by getting rid of Setoguchi and Jones. Maybe those 2 guys could use some time to shore up their games in the AHL and let the better young guys play.

The whole "meritocracy" thing gets thrown out the window if those 2 guys start ahead of anybody in the Gaudreau, Baertschi, Ferland, Granlund group.

You don't shove kids into the line-up just for the sake of having kids in the line-up. Jeez, the vast majority of MLB draft picks selected out of high school spend at least 3 years in the lower levels and those selected out of the NCAA spend at least one.

Have patience people.

Baseball is not hockey.

Baertschi has spent 3 years at a lower level.
Gaudreau has spent 3 years at a lower level.
Ferland has spent 4 years at a lower level.

I think, at this stage, Treliving should be looking at moving some of this forward depth for a talented young top 3 D man.

Teams looking to free up cap space (like Chicago) would be chomping at the bit to pick up some of these prospects, and we might be able to put together a tempting enough package to snag a Nick Leddy or player of his ilk.

100% agree that Leddy should be our target right now. I'd be willing to take on Versteeg in a deal that got us Leddy and even if it gave up a forward prospect. Leddy looks like he's not only good now but that he's improving. We need someone like him on D in the future.

That's hardly any amount of time that demands immediate NHL placement. Seriously... why do they have to start with the NHL club? What's wrong with starting them on the farm and calling them up as needs dictate? Frankly it's a waste of money and a waste of an asset to shove them in now without any overriding need to do so.

IMO, Jooris gets the "Ben Street" treatment from a few years ago based on his awesome camp. Makes the team, has a cup of coffee, spends the rest of the year in the minors. Nothing wrong with that.

I know I'm somewhat bias, but I've been watching and following as much as some of you. I just dont know what else Gaudreau has to do to be in the starting lineup. What is the weak phase of his game, yes, he's not gonna throw his body around, but his defensive game is well underrated. Always making smart plays, great at back checking plus a great defensive is a quick counter attack.

He controls the game when he's on the ice, knows when to turn it up ice and when to keep control and play the puck back. It blows my mind that there are still fans out there that are willing to keep someone that will be out of the flames organization within a year or two, over a kid that could be a cornerstone for years to come.

Jooris is the perfect extra forward. If he sits then we're not stalling a highly-skilled prospect's development. When he plays he plays hard and is a great penalty killer. Good size, RH shot, ok wheels and a great attitude. I hope he sticks.

I prefer Byron as the extra forward.

Guy has 1 plus tool (speed), can play up and down the line-up, play all three forward positions, and he's old enough that you can be pretty sure that what you have is what he has and you won't be stunting any development by having him sit for stretches.

Because they're good enough, right now, and the team has no scoring? It's not like they're being rushed, we're talking about 3 years removed from their draft.
