I want a 980 but I want the ASUS one with the big cooler, I can't stand those hair dryer coolers, too noisy. Hard to wait though.

EDIT: Where did you get it, preorder through MemEx?

In a thread with the resolution of different hardware platforms right in the title, you take issue with a guy talking about the brand new video card that was just released? And you know there's an actual Video Games Thread where plenty of discussion happens about PC games right? Don't be such a condescending jackass

Is it possible to have ANY kind of dissenting opinion with anyone on this message board without having some jerk insult you?

To expand on my point, I didn't take issue with that, I took issue with his dismissal of this thread being about the actual games on the hardware platforms. It often has been in this very thread, and a huge factor in the 'thunderdome battle of the platforms' is the games available on each platform. Exclusives, which run better, which are selling the best, etc.

The video games thread is more for friendly discussion or debate on the actual titles themselves. The games themselves are a gigantic part of a debate discussing the merits of individual platforms, and has been discussed across hundreds of posts in this very thread that it is apparently 'not about games'.

But I'm a condescending jackass, right? Not the guy who makes one-off comments to dismiss people that are completely inaccurate and make no sense?

In response to PsYcNeT talking about his video card:

That seems pretty one off and dismissive, inaccurate and doesn't make much sense too, at least that's the way I read it. I'd expect a reply to be in kind.

After reading OOTC's comment a few times I think it fits right in this topic. Basically saying PC gamers worry more about the hardware they use than the games they use it on because with consoles there is no hardware to talk about. I can see the point and I would have also taken the winky face as him just busting balls also.

Its the thunderdome, anything goes here, once Destiny comes to PC the console gamers will go back into hiding anyway

I don't know how PC gamers have any time to play games? When they aren't busy talking about which new hardware they want to get they are busy talking about which games will come to PC...Eventually...At some point...

Back to the Hardware Thunderdome news!

. . . not that anybody was expecting the Xbone to do much in Japan. But youch man!

http://kotaku.com/the-xbox-one-is-do...pan-1638971781

If you thought the Xbox One had a terrible Japanese launch, then, well, you're right. But as bad as those launch numbers are, they're freaking amazing when compared to how the Xbox One is doing now.
In its first four days on sale, Microsoft sold 25,674 Xbox Ones in Japan. In comparison, Microsoft sold over 60,000 Xbox 360s in its first two days on sale when it launched in 2005.

But, Microsoft then sold a mere 3,015 Xbox One consoles in its second week on sale in Japan. To put things in context, there were twice the number of PS3s sold and nearly eight times the number of PS4 consoles sold.

And last week? 4Gamer reports that Microsoft sold only 1,314 Xbox One consoles. One thousand consoles! That's terrible.

Yeah I went in last Friday at open (my work is like 5m away from the SE location), and put the cash down.

I do like the reference/Titan-style cooler however, it's quieter than the Classified cooler I had on one of my 680s, and it's rated for 250watt cards, and the 980 only has a TDP ~165watts. At 40%/2000RPM it keeps it stable in all games (besides like FurMark etc) at ~80c/81c, which is just fine for me. Most coolers I find can have their noise levels mitigated by a well tuned fan curve, especially these Maxwell cards, since they use a staggeringly lower amount of power than the last few gens.

I'm really excited to SLI with these puppies too, the scaling is out of sight. Most comparison reviews are showing scaling from between 50%-100%, with just the launch drivers. Pretty awesome stuff. I haven't seen dual-card scaling at that level since the 5xxx series AMD/ATI cards.

Ah, so there's probably nowhere I can just walk up and buy one? Probably a good thing.

I bought two 780 Classifieds this year. They're great, but I kinda wish that I had waited for these new cards.

They haven't had a proper console since the PS2? Man, living in China is not on my bucket list.

Seeing $399 for Xbone + Kinect + Forza in the US now. Could we see $299 or even $249 for the barebone system soon? Black Friday or the holiday season probably, Microsoft isn't going to sit idle while the sales differences keeps growing.
