If anybody hasn't thanked a Fotz mom joke or added to it feel free to cast the first stone.

So because we've all done our fair share of lessening the standards of the board, no one should try to improve it?

Not directed at this comment in particular but the response of the rabid 'keep the thread as is' folks in here is quite disgusting.

In addition, the most recent pics in the thread ARE personal pics. They are not model shots, they are selfies. So to say that the pictures in the thread are of models who should be subject to critiquing is false.

I'm pretty sure I haven't. Although it's mostly because I've never laughed at one. The whole mom-joke thing is pretty American. We do "your dad" -jokes around here. It's a slightly different formula.

The above has no information value.

Mean? is Mediocre really a negative word?
are we really falling in a measurement system where:

bad=terrible
mediocre=bad
good=average
great=good

I don't understand why you continue to try to justify that post as anything other than a ridiculously insensitive lapse in judgment. How is he (and his wife) supposed to take your post as anything other than negative? How do you expect people to react to what you had to say?

You'd have been so much better off if you just acknowledged it as what it was. You know, "Hey you guys, you're right. That wasn't cool of me to post or say. StrykerSteve, I apologise. I was out of line." Heck, we'd all be better off if people were willing to admit when they've made a mistake and move on from it.

You should be careful about that. There was a guy named strombad who used to do that all the time but it lead to him getting banned. You probably aren't aware of him though since he was given the boot a week before you signed up.

sure that is exactly what I meant by my comment that seeing how there are bad comments we shouldn't even try???
Or maybe my comment was that there are a few posters with really selective memories who love to find fault with others and forget about their own errors.

Just thought I would bump this thread with a nice little article Adam Proteau did on this subject.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/he...the-ice-girls/

Can't say I disagree with him. Maybe the ice girls are why this hockey forum is so danged misogynistic. Honestly though, while the Flames version of this isn't as bad as most, who needs it to enjoy a hockey game? I have cringed before bringing a new fan to a hockey game to be confronted with this debacle during TV timeouts. It's like having the grounds crew at a baseball game come out in club wear or stripper outfits. It just doesn't fit and probably needs to go.

While the idea behind the article is OK, Proteau is an goof.

He makes it out like these girls are mistreated slaves being forced to work under the whip for meagre rations rather than the fact that hundreds of these girls show up in some cities to try out for these positions (which along with the Stampeders Outriders are very prestigious positions for these young girls within the dancing/modeling communities within the city).

These girls become minor local celebrities and get a pretty nice notch on their resumes through these activities and they are very happy and proud to do the job.

Who is a guy like Proteau to campaign to take that away from these young women?

I mean, look how upset these girls are. How do they survive?

If anybody thinks these girls are dressed like strippers, well, I'd like to welcome you to the real world and 2014.

Was at a game several years back with my buddy Chris. Seated to my right were two very attractive young ladies who were quite knowledgeable in hockey and we hit it off well. As Chris is married and I am as old as dirt, there was no "hitting on" or anything like that, just good banter between the four of us.

During a break in play, the ice girls come out to clean the ice.

The young lady next to me leans forward and says, quote:

"This is my favourite part".

Let that sink in for a moment.

Those girls are no worse dressed than girls at a Joey's. The card girls at UFC fights are way worse IMO.

I can see how it could make individuals uncomfortable though.

Like I said, the Flames outfits aren't the worst offenders out there. There are some pretty questionable ones for girls to be cleaning the ice in.

What's with the cosplay?

And then you have moments like this where opportunity presents itself simply because of the outfit in question.

It has nothing to do with their job description, it's just a chance to get T&A out there.

If that was her favorite part of the night then she is flat out NOT a hockey fan. Don't know what else I'm supposed to get from that.

How about a "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves" thread? No photos, just a celebration of the accomplishments of incredible women. No joke.

Again, the article wasn't just about the outfits, but how to better engage the female fan base on equal terms.

Quote:
More importantly, let’s look at what the presence of ice girls does to the paying female customer. When I asked female Twitter followers how the NHL could better engage them as fans, there were five common answers, including: hire more women in hockey positions (and hockey media), better sizing options for women’s jerseys and merchandise, a de-emphasizing of the color pink (or at least more non-pink jersey choices), the elimination of ice girls, and the key answer – don’t market specifically to women, and don’t do anything to make them feel like “The Other.”
I think that's kind of what this whole thread has been about IMO.

Perhaps it was her favorite part to mock?

What if there were Ice Guys? Dudes in cut-offs and leather vests?
