Uhhh...he probably does take them to a Super Bowl, and has a pretty good chance of winning it if Marlon McCree isn't a total moron.

they did choke, no question. but the defense needed to make a stop and they rolled over and made it look easy for Arizona.... i do disagree as i dont think he has ever had a defense that could stand up and make the big play at the right time. but i know what you are saying, it was easy to see that they would fall apart in the end yet again. now the Chargers next game is Seattle....NICE

that game to me sums up the Chargers history, basically let the ball hit the ground or if you have to intercept it for the personal glory, hit the deck right away, the game is then over and the Chargers go to the AFE championship game. The Jets playoff game they lost was a result of their kicker missing 3 field goals that game, nore than he missed all year. i know Rivers has to take some blame but he has really been let down by his team as well.....

Well we all know what assuming does...

Goodell sat for an interview with CBS in which he said he hadn’t seen the video.
“We had not seen any videotape of what occurred in the elevator. We assumed that there was a video, we asked for video, we asked for anything that was pertinent, but we were never granted that opportunity,” Goodell said.
In a sign of just how big a story this has become, CBS broke into its regularly scheduled afternoon programming to show the brief clip from the interview in which Goodell made that statement. The network has promised that it will have more from Goodell on tonight’s news and tomorrow morning.

What a clown. Hopefully we start seeing some sponsors threaten to pull money to force Goodell out, yet I doubt it happens because the sponsors are afraid to make a stand knowing all their competitors are waiting to take their place as sponsors.

Wasn't be playing on a busted knee in the playoffs one year as well? Let's not forget the guy had to play for a number of years under one of the worst head coach and GM combos in NFL history. Does anyone think that if Eli had gone to the Chargers and Rivers to the Giants that the Chargers would've been better? Honestly, as an Eagles fan, despite their two lucky ass Super Bowls, the best thing the Giants did was make that trade.

The Norv era was not good, i do think the Mccoy/Telasco combination has them going in the right direction, they seem to be drafting well unlike the AJ smith era

If you think the owners are going to force Goodell out, you are a bit crazy given he's made every owner money hand over fist and saw the Buffalo bills sold for $1.4B....in one of the smallest markets in the NFL. Money talks....in a big big way.

So just because authorities were soft on the incident means the NFL should just throw their hands up in the air and say "Well, they didn't do anything so I guess we won't either"? Goodell himself said they were going to get serious about domestic incidents. 2 games is not being serious. 6 games is not being serious.

There is a collective bargaining agreement and the NFL just can't suspend players if they aren't criminally charged as the NFLPA will appeal.

Wasn't he just suspended indefinitely? I haven't seen an appeal yet.
Quote:
While Rice admitted hitting her the local law enforcement decided it wasn't worthy of a criminal charge.

Then they failed as well. Doesn't mean the NFL must be as incompetent.

Like I said before most of the blame lies with them as if he got charged and convicted Rice would have been suspended indefinitely the first time.

I would say most of the blame lies with Rice for knocking out his then-fiance. But there is lots of blame to go around. The whole thing was handled badly by everyone.

Why Norv Turner wasn't fired years ago is beyond me. The Chargers may have won a Super Bowl had they not hired that boob, and instead of gotten rid of the inept AJ Smith (and probably kept Schottenheimer). What a waste.

The argument i hear is that Goodell makes the owners money, so he is safe. does he really make them money? hasnt the league been set up to become the powerful entity it is regardless who is at the helm? isnt he just a guy who is in the right situation? thats not to say he is useless but the NFL is so huge it really doesnt matter who is at the helm (within reason)? just my thought

Which is why I said it's gotta be a sponsor boycott, which hurts the bottom line. Otherwise unless he commits an actual crime, the owners will let him eat a bunch of #### if it makes them money.
And Buffalo sold for what it did because of the usual Los Angeles (and this time Toronto) threat. The Wilson family should be thanking Bon Jovi more than Goodell for that sale price.

The Giants would agree with you as they have two Superbowls thanks to Eli while the Chargers have zero under Rivers. They would do that trade 100/100 times as winning Superbowls is the only thing that counts in the NFL. Eli made clutch throws to win both Superbowls especially the first one which was classic. Not sure if either of Manning or Rivers makes the NFL HOF but I'm willing to bet Eli on the strength of two Superbowl Championships and Superbowl MVP will make it over a guy with empty regular season stats.
I'm a Raiders fan and no matter how bad the team is we usually beat the Chargers once every year because of bad plays by Rivers. He doesn't scare anyone in the division.

Wait are we calling the "Helmet Catch" a clutch throw now? The pass to Manningham in the second game was a clutch throw. The Tyree catch was about as big of a fluke as there can be. That said, I think Rivers could easily have won with the supporting cast Eli had. Really, with that defense, coaching, offensive line, RBs and WRs, etc., that team should've been at least making the playoffs (if not winning the division) every year up until about 2011. That's not all on Eli, but when you lead the league in interceptions for 30% of your career, you're certainly not helping things.

From my fuzzy memory, I recall Eli being really good in the playoff games leading up to the Superbowls. He was killer in converting on third downs.

I don't think there is any way that Eli Manning can make the HOF despite having won two Super Bowls.
Eli's stats suck as a QB. He is a sub 60% completion guy, only has one season with 30 or more TD's and has an abysmal career QB rating of 81 and has never cracked 100. By comparison, his brother is over 65% for completions, averages just under 33 TD's per year and has a career QB rating at just under 100. Peyton is a HOF QB while Eli was lucky to be on a team that had exceptional players which won two Super Bowls.

Quote:
A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive three months ago, while league officers have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.
The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."
The law enforcement official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can't confirm anyone watched the video. The person said they were unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited, because they wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice's punishment.
|
Quote:
The person said he sent a DVD copy of the security camera video to an NFL office and included his contact information. He asked the AP not to release the name of the NFL executive, for fear that the information would identify the law enforcement official as the source.
|
Quote:
In a memo to the NFL's 32 teams on Wednesday, Goodell said that the league asked law enforcement for the video, but not the casino. "In the context of a criminal investigation, information obtained outside of law enforcement that has not been tested by prosecutors or by the court system is not necessarily a reliable basis for imposing league discipline," he wrote.
The video, shown to the AP on Monday, is slightly longer than the TMZ version, and includes some audio.
