Finally got to sit and play a few games last night. For everything EA got wrong with the game modes, the gameplay itself will keep me coming back to the game far more than either of the last 2 iterations did. I really like the variety of plays that you end up seeing thanks to the puck physics. Should get plenty out of the game thanks to that alone.

Also, as much as they go on and on about how they improved the presentation -- that green screen intro with the commentary team is already grating on my nerves, I will skip it every time. Also, they managed to take one of the best play by play guys and make him sound as bad as Rob Kerr. Just brutal commentary, it all sounds awkward and has no natural flow.

I think the game does deserve the flack its getting, but if you can overlook the glaring ommissions, there's a good game of hockey in it.

Definitely doesn't sound like a natural commentary at all. Very robotic, forced and despite the claims of exponentially more lines, it's still very limited in its repetition.

I didn't notice it in the demo, but is the board play still terrible? It always felt so magnetic and forced in NHL 14 (and earlier).

And it makes me sad how much I dislike the commentary, because I really love Doc on TV. Hopefully they get some new stuff recorded and clean it up for next year. Also needs more "HE SCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRSSSSSS!!!!!!!!" after a goal instead of the bored sounding "and he scores". Ray is a great addition though, his parts were generally good (at least from what little I heard in the demo).

Wow, this got a 5/10 from Gamespot, weird seeing them give out a score that low.

These low reviews are deserved. It's difficult for fans of hockey to give a low review because we love hockey so much that we can overlook faults in other areas.

However these review sites are viewing this as a sports game in the sports category where FIFA, the show, madden and the nba games exist. As such the lack of variety, game modes, missing content and unfinished (will be added by patches later crap) areas of game game make this a flop in terms of other "video games" in the sports category. This game is very similar to NBA live IMO, lacklustre effort and bound to be discounted within a few months.

I only played a couple games last night, but I love the feel of it. I also find the menus to be a fairly big upgrade on previous years releases. The basic action of putting your most used mode as the big tile on the main screen is a massive improvement. Yes, you can make the joke that it's less important to have that given that there's less modes, but drilling down in previous years was annoying to me. I really liked how roster problems are highlighted instead of getting a "your lines are broken, go fix" message.

I felt even after just 2 games that this years version is just more fun than the last few. I enjoyed 13 and 14, but in truth my interest waned for the first time since 1992. I look forward to more of it for sure.

Many EA sports games haven't been getting top scores lately...Madden got a 7, NBA Live got a 4. Fifa seems to be the only really good EA sports game these days.

NBA 2k series gets the 9s it deserves...I laugh when people say NHL or Madden have good graphics...they obviously haven't seen what 2k has been doing with NBA

Quick question, and I haven't really kept up on anything to do with this stuff, so forgive me if I'm being a newb here, but will I be able to buy this on PS3 and play against someone who has a PS4?

The PS4 doesn't have EASHL, which is the mode I play for 90% of my time in the game, so I want to get the PS3 one - but a couple buddies want to get the PS4 version, and I'd still like to be able to kick their asses in 1v1.

If anyone wants this game on PS4 sealed for $50 let me know. Seems I got 2 on the E3 deal so before I return it for the $52 I paid someone can snag it for $20 off.

I'm saying the traditional Season Mode I've always played is gone...so no Flames all season and then the playoffs. I'm going to try Be a GM and see what it's like.

I'm not thrilled...

Anyone else having issues with only being able to play the Kings and Rangers after installing Update 1.01? I know for the pre-load only the Kings and Rangers are available but I would think after the update is installed everything should be working? wtf?

Right now I have a $70 demo.

Edit: I am using a disc.

I just set up the game and then quit it as soon as it let me and it went to the main menu.

Is it completely installed?

I had a problem like that with MLB the show cause it wasn't installed
