Wow. I have that same torque wrench and like it, but wasn't lucky enough to get a sale. I think that I paid just over $100 for the torque wrench alone. And this deal includes a breaker bar.

An absolutely crazy price. Doooo it.

Wait, is that better than the 36$ 1/2 inch I picked up at Princess Auto yesterday?

EDIT: The CDN Tire one goes to 250 ft-lb, while this one is only 150. Lug nuts are only like 75-90 lb though so whatevs.

Was going to post that for $100 bucks after tax I managed to get a 1/2" torque wrench, 4 ton bottle jack, 1/2" impact driver, and socket set at Princess last night.

Ya I've always bought nicer rims to use in the summer then stuck with the stock ones in the winter. Looks way better on the car than steelies for the 8 months of the year you need winter tires for

Wow, lots of replies. Thanks.

If you are interested in a quote, it would help if you sent me the tire size. It will be a series of numbers on the outside of your tire. eg: 215/60/R15. And if you want mounted on steel rims, or just tires installed on existing rims.

You do not need to have a VW either, we do all makes. We are an equal-opportunity tire installer.

In addition to the above, please let me know the make and model if you want rims.

pylon, do you know a shop who will do tire shaving? I have a half worn set of 3 tires, just waiting for a shaved 4th so I can use them again

I wanted to do something like this but my OEMs are 19" and winters are 18". I decided to get some reasonable looking alloy rims for my winters. Thanks for the reply.

Anyone know the skinny on dealing with TPMS when changing out winter tires?

EDIT: Or do I have to buy TPMS sensors with the winter tires/wheels as well.

If you are getting a 2nd set of rims with the tires, and you want TPMS, then yes you have to purchase them. If you don't, you will have the warning indicator on all of the time. You don't need them though.

If you are using the same rims, then they will reuse the existing TPMS sensors.

If you are not putting the tires on yourself they might force you to buy TPMS for your winters if your car already has it. They told me they're forced to keep the car at the same safety level as before. At least that is what they told me, maybe they ripped me off.

I looked into it. In the US, TPMS is federally mandated, but there is no such regulation in Canada. If they coerced you into buying new sensors, they were hosing you.

It depends on the car. My car, I need it or I lose traction control. Kind of sucks because it's an extra couple hundred bucks.

Kal Tire wouldn't sell me winter tires without the TPMS as they said they wouldn't disable a safety feature in the vehicle. Got the tires somewhere else and the warning light was on all winter and sometimes the car would beep about it. Not a big deal.

Kal Tire just trying to soak another customer. Worst rip off for tires.

Does traction control actually work now in the snow? It used to be that when the tires spun, traction control would take over and the wheels wouldn't do anything. You'd just sit there. If the tires can spin, it gives you a chance to get out. I used to disconnect it.

I'm starting to get a headache from this urgh.

Okay so the options as I see them now are:

a) buy tires+wheels and mount them myself

Pros: Cheaper, can swap whenever I feel like it
Cons: TPMS light all winter, no traction control until I put my allseasons back on

b) buy tires+wheels+TPMS sensors and mount them myself, spend 30m at dealership to reinitialize the sensors every time I swap

Pros: Cheapish (extra ~260 for the sensors + $60 every time I swap), can swap whenever I feel like it
Cons: Dealership trip, more expensive than option a), extra sensors

c) buy tires+wheels+TPMS and have the dealership mount them

Pros: Less hassle overall
Cons: Have to bring the car in, costs even more, longer turnaround

d) buy tires, have the dealership swap the tires

Pros: Cheaper than buying wheels/TPMS, everything works
Cons: Have to bring the car in, even longer turnaround

EDIT: Now the dealership is telling me that TPMS isn't required for my vehicles traction control. That is only an issue in Honda's. *slits throat* If that's the case, A is obviously the best solution.

What cars use tpm for traction control? My understanding was most traction control systems worked off the same wheel speed sensors that abs uses.
