I have to ask how he did not serve time for this incident given the blatant evidence? How does the legal system shrug their shoulders to that and decide he only needs to enter a corrective program? If that was Joe Blow caught on film doing that he's serving time.

John Harbaugh is a total scum bag so I'm not surprised at all he would consider it a "non-issue". He's as classless as they come.

When you watch that vile video, the thing that's so messed up is how nonchelantly he reacts to drilling her. I seriously doubt that's the first time he's hit a woman with how casually he acts doing it.

Does the woman have to press charges?

Oh boy. This is incredibly ugly and might be the biggest black mark on a league that has welcomed back a wide range of criminals and scumbags. Rarely will Goddell ever have video evidence of a domestic assault (versus he-said, she-said) in front of him to support a suspension. Media and fans have already aligned on this and I can't imagine the NFLPA wants to dig their heels in too much for a woman beater.
The Ravens and their scumbag coach (IMO both Harbaugh brothers are jacka****) will wait for the NFL to eat crow. If Rice isn't suspended for 6-8 games the Ravens should just cut him.

NFL says it hasn't seen the video until today, and everything I've read says the NFL cannot change or upgrade the suspension or they'll lose in court. Basically it's on the Ravens to cut him, so let's see if they can finally choose to not side with sociopaths.

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today,” the league said in its statement.

Curious to see what you've read. I've only heard that it's a grey area and that new evidence might be enough (not the same standard as US double jeopardy law). If there's something specific in the CBA that would be something that needs to be addressed.

The NFL cannot increase Rice's punishment by claiming the league did not know the seriousness of what Rice did. First, who didn't know that Rice punched Palmer while in the elevator? Did anyone really think she fainted?
Second, the punishment has already been decided both in court and by the NFL and partially served by Rice.
If the NFL or the Ravens tried to increase the punishment by claiming they didn't know how what he did, they would lose in court.

Based off the fact I'm seeing tons of active NFL players blasting Ray Rice, it would lead me to believe his career is over. Sounds like nobody wants to play with him. Wonder how the Ravens locker room feels.
Edit: And as to why the Ravens still haven't cut him: $14 million in dead cap money to do so. Sick isn't it? Cap space actually being a factor here.

Well they did just erect a statue outside the stadium for someone who (in all likelihood) murdered a person. So they might be okay with this as well. It could be on ownership or the coaching staff to make the change.

I didn't follow this incident as closely as others have - was it not clear he punched her months ago? What has changed since then, just the fact that they now have video of the punch instead of just him dragging her out of the elevator?
Just wondering why the reaction is so much worse now, I thought it was clear what he did before?

Oh it was clear, but some Raven fans held out hope that Ray acting in self-defense or that she started it. Even his lawyer suggested a disgusting hypothetical about what happened
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ypothetically/
But the video is indefensible. The video is indisputable proof that he should be in jail, forget suspended. Welcome to the two tiered American justice system.

They didn't cut a murderer (Ray Lewis) in fact they made a statue of the guy in front of their stadium (shameful IMO) to glorify their acceptance of players committing criminal actions so it's doubtful they will cut a wife beater. That's just how the Ravens roll. Feel bad for fans of that team as I have never quit cheering for any of my teams but if I was a Ravens fan it would be pretty tough to like the organization they have become.

Not proven in court but much like how the murders of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman has gone unsolved so has the murders Richard Lollar and Jacinth Baker. No point in continuing further with the investigation when the police know the murderer got away with it much like the OJ case.

Hopefully this happens..
Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel has been "texting with team officials around the NFL," and the belief around the league is that the Ravens will release Ray Rice.
We don't typically use Wetzel as a source, but his words are worth noting. Multiple team officials believe the Ravens simply "have to" release Rice after the video of him knocking out his then-fiancee in a hotel elevator in February came to light Monday. If the Ravens were to keep Rice rostered, pay him, and play him, they'd face severe backlash. Current and ex-NFL players have already taken to Twitter calling for Rice's head. There's a chance Rice may get cut and never play again.

Really looking forward to the Broncos Seahawks game. If the Broncos can beat the Hawks at the Clink then it's game on, I'll consider the Broncos legit.

What are the Ravens seriously waiting for? Do they really need to investigate this video? Painfully obvious what happened and who did it. And unlike the Donald Sterling situation there is no threat of boycotts from players or sponsors, so no additional pressure here on them. Amazing that they might choose to eat a ton of #### just to avoid some dead cap space. Depressing quite frankly that this is the modern NFL, where cap space trumps morality.

There should be a clause for cap relief in a situation like this. The team shouldn't be punished for doing the right thing.
Edit: Yes I know it's the Ravens, there is a first time for everything.
