I agree in general, but I believe you would get the same result in this specific instance. While it is a 3 vs 1 choice right now, the "keep as is" vote is the 'no' answer to your theoretical question. The other three options are all saying "yes, something should be done." You would most likely end up with the same 40/60 split in favour of a change of some sort.

So the more interesting question would be to remove the "keep as is" option and allow only a vote between close it, stricter moderation and allow fully inclusive content. Or, given that the third option would require stricter moderation anyway, it really should become a poll with two options: close it or make it inclusive.

in a thread dominated by arguments denouncing sexism, you choose to use "broad"

you realize that "broad" is a derogatory term for women, right?
or are you just trolling?

I voted to keep as is, but CP has the right to allow whatever threads they want and like others have said it's not like there are not other sources for this stuff.

Saying that, I don't like the fact that the easily offended minority can pressure a website to remove something totally legal. More censorship is not usually a good thing. The thread is clearly marked. If the mere presence of the thread offends you then it probably says more about you than CP.

As said before, if you think the issue is about being offended you're missing the point.

right now we're seeing it closer to being 45/55
but if I'm correct, and they went with a yes/no poll, you'd see a closer 50/50 split

I'm interested to know if you read the thread, or just the poll options before commenting.

It's good to know if you're just too lazy to read the thread before vomiting out your (obviously so important it can't be held back) opinion, or extremely obtuse.

Keep the thread as is. The current level of moderation is fine.

The one other benefit of the thread is that it seems to help keep "those" pictures in one central place instead of new individual threads being started or other threads being cluttered up with those pictures.

Sorry if my opinion offends you. I'm going to my room to cry about your hateful comment.

I don't believe he said your post was offensive, I believe he said your post didn't address the issue at all, considering it's not simply about being offended.

I do believe that the YLYL thread is sexually objectifying women, but it doesn't make the thread misogynistic. One does not mean the other.

It doesn't need any more moderation than any other thread.

Happy?

To be fair he was kind of an ass about it. I'm all for discussion, I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts but some posters are unable to say anything without coming off as a condescending jerk regardless of whether or not they are correct. I'm sure it gets tiring responding to people that have seemingly not read a lot of the thread, but it also gets tiring reading the same sarcastic reply. If only all posters were able to disregard what bothers them and keep going on in an interesting and analytical manner instead of adding a petty response in turn.

Except it is tiring when the same thing has been discussed three or more times, and posters have gone at length to explain it in each scenario, and then someone who hasn't read the thread thinks that after however many pages their argument is going to somehow be novel, and we have to cycle through the same thing. So I think some of us can be forgiven if we start getting a bit short with people. Not only that, but a lot of these posts aren't adding to the debate, they're just ignorant one-liners and drive-bys.

While I don't entirely agree with all each one of your points, the fact is that there is little lost and much to gain by it not being there.

Even before I saw the numbers last night, I realized that removing the thread would never 'win' the poll, but at what point does it make sense to close it even if it is a minority opinion?

It has been pointed out before that there is hundreds of places to get that exact content elsewhere on the internet, so it being on CP just allows the community to share in that content together. In that respect, it is very much like the Funny Pics thread. The place where it differs from the Funny Pics thread is that the comments are typically offensive, and that seems to be the part that most people have an issue with.

I haven't read through this thread because frankly I didn't see a need to go into here before today (the title is kind of ambiguous).

I voted to keep it because I enjoy the thread as is. I don't want to argue about whether it's right or wrong because frankly I think someone else has made my point and it's probably been argued to death in both sides.

I just like looking at hot chicks.

I just wanted an honest answer. It's gratifying to hear.

It's happens in every single thread.
People are busy and don't necessarily have time to keep up with the entire discussion. Things will get repeated and some people will want to contribute with the little time they have to do so. It doesn't make their involvement any less welcome than you or I who have had the time to read the whole thread.

I'm with you on drive by one liners, but some people are actually trying to contribute a reasonable point and are getting snapped at because it's already been discussed. That's unnecessary and ironically very "un-inclusive" of fellow CP members.

And while liking to look at "hot chicks" isn't bad, it's the other stuff that seems to permeate in that thread (and other threads) that demean women, which is part of the issue. Stuff like... this perhaps:

You sought out the personal, intended-to-be private, nude pictures of some celebrities (which you had no right to view in the first place), and the response was "Nothing special, totally meh."

THAT is part of the problem being discussed in this thread, just so you are aware.

I can see it being a contribution if they are adding weight/a voice to a side of the discussion, but posts like that are literally arguing with a cloud.

It's essentially the equivalent of walking into a room where people are discussing Shakespeare and being like "Oh Shakespeare? Yeah I ####ing hate Joseph Fiennes."

Sure I can get behind allowing or not allowing certain comments, but then where do we draw the line?

Yeah the pictures were supposed to be private, but they're public now. I wasn't the first and won't be the last guy to look at them.
