What a stupidly glib response.

Poll results are quite surprising so far.

I expected options 1 and 3 to dominate, with the reaction to the thread here in this discussion I felt a lot of people would want to just get rid of it, especially if our female members had spoken up about what it means to them.

Most people probably don't read the thread.

It's basically going exactly how I expected it to go. Some who support the thread participated in the discussion, while a good chunk probably muttered to themselves about the stupid PC police/over-sensitive women.
EDIT: It would've been interesting to see how the poll went if it wasn't anonymous.

I think that's a somewhat mean presumption. After all, most people most of the time just don't have the time to think about other people's POV's because they have enough on their own plates.
It's very, very human. Personally I'm happy that a majority has voted for changing something about that thread.
The results kind of put the mods in a pinch though. You could really draw any conclusion from the results.
"It bothers that many people? Get rid of it."
"Majority says keep it as is."
"Majority says let's do something but not get rid of it. Let's do the modding thing."

If there ever was a need for an anonymous poll, this was it.

I don't think it would be any different. I voted to keep the thread and I don't care who knows. This is the internet not serious business. For the most part there's nothing wrong with the thread as it doesn't feature nudity and the mods clean it up from time to time if need be which is seldom. Like a lot of threads in the Off Topic Forum you may not care for the subject matter and in that case simply don't look.

I can't speak for others, but honestly the presence & posting in the YLYL thread does absolutely nothing to deter me from posting in threads that I find interesting.

Did you even bother reading this thread? Multiple women posters explained, in precise detail, exactly why they have a problem with that thread and you still say there's nothing wrong with it?

Benefit: women and girls will feel more welcome to post
Benefit: sexists, misogynists, cave trolls, objectifiers, will feel less welcome and less validated in their beliefs by others of the same ilk
Benefit: the scourge of sexist language and ideas on this board will be initially addressed as unwanted in this community

Not that the cost is high but I think you also reduce the sense of welcomeness in the site of those who find nothing wrong with the thread. Closing tells those who post and view the thread for whatever reason that they are not welcome here.
The first benefit has never been stated by any female member of this forum. Generally it seems te concerns are more around the pictures and behaviours making their way throughout the site. Closing the thread does nothing to address it and may actually make the problem worse as there wont be one place to put this material so some of it will be posted elsewhere.
Benefit 2 can be addressed by better moderation of comments and comes with the con of also making a lot of "normal" people feel less welcome. As even listing the benefit as you did reads like you are catagorizing everyone who views the thread or for that matter views girly pics in a negative manner even if it is not your intent
Benefit 3 can also be addressed by better moderation both in and out of the thread. The sexist langauge and attitudes of the site can only me changed by a full on press against it te same way homophobic comments are addressed everywhere on this site regardless of threads.
If you are seeking the benefits you list getting rid of the thread does little to achieve them. Better moderation from the community identifying and chastising sexist behaviours in all threads is required.

While "keep as is" holds a plurality of votes, it is notable that the majority opinion is currently that there is a problem with the thread as is. In that respect, I agree with Thor that the results are somewhat surprising.

Thanks for reading the thread champ. The issue isn't about some kind of kindergarten-esque "fairness".

It reminds me a bit of what MarchHare was saying in regards to the gay marriage threads from yesteryear.
While the discussion reflected some opinions, those opinions weren't reflected in the anonymous polling.
Edit: I mean that the same weight doesn't appear to be behind the polling as much as is reflected in the discussion.

This probably isn't a situation where "majority rules" makes sense. Nor is the poll "binding" in any way. It is just helpful to get some quantitative data to go along with the opinions being posted.
As noted - over half the community seems to think that the current state isn't ideal.

I'm surprised it isn't. Option84's old threads about pop were met with much ''controversy'' and resulted in his banning, yet a thread with derogatory comments that clearly offend members of this community stays open? I guess if a thread is full of T&A, it supersedes everything.
I voted to leave the thread as is, but after reading how some members feel I would like to change my vote to having it moderated . Have it moderated to filter out the creepy comments and ban certain posters who continue to do it in every thread. TBH I'm surprised it even stayed open for this long. Even as a guy it annoys me when every time a woman is mentioned in whatever context in a thread, and then 3 posters jump in to chime in about whatever sexual context they can about her. It happens in pretty much every internet discussion out there. But it doesn't mean CP has to be the same.

Of course if you look at it that way, it's always going to look favorable that the glass is half empty. That's almost like saying a majority of Canadians have voted in a minority Conservative government but underlining the point that the majority didnt vote for them.
Whenever you present a majority of poll choices representing there should be something done about the thread (3) versus one that says no, dont do anything (1), you're always going to get a little more votes towards the "yes" vote because the human mind naturally wants to pick a more moderate choice.
when you present the poll as "should we do something about that thread?" as a 50/50 yes or no question, you'd get a much accurate result

Huh, I really didn't see an issue with the YOLO thread, but after reading comments from the female population on here, and then going back to the thread, it's pretty embarrassing. Including a couple posts of my own, which make me look like a troglodyte. Consider me convinced that there's a problem with the thread.
