sorry you're offended by it..

I meant nothing by it but I'm sure many here assumed the same thing if they heard it.

Telling a gay man to 'man up' and referring to him as ''Sally"? You're a real piece of work PIMking.

He basically received an average of about $26 per contributor. Having over 3500 people want to help him out is actually quite remarkable.

On the eve of our president of hockey operations leading the Calgary pride parade, I'm deeply interested into the tolerance of those homophobes on CalgaryPuck and how the website administers their brand.

I don't think that the pride parade or who is leading it should matter at all. This website is not the Calgary Flames, nor does it represent them in any kind of official capacity. That being said, homophobia has no place in civilized discourse, and should not be tolerated, condoned or accepted.

As far as why he was filming:

Quote:
"I thought for myself, for my own protection if something were to happen it would be best to have it on video. I just hit record. I just hit camera and hit record. I just know that I did it for my protection and it kind of all went from there, and the video really speaks for itself," Pierce said.
And how this came about:

Quote:
"The video was not posted for people to attack them. I wouldn't want it to happen to me. I wouldn't want it to happen to them. They are still my family and they are in my heart but what happened in that video is very hurtful," he said.

Pierce hopes by seeing that video his family will realize what they lost. He says he came out last October and he believed his stepmother was supportive when he did. Something changed months later.

He says his father, grandparents, step-mother and her sister gathered at their home for what he describes as a "pray the gay away" intervention.

That right there is the power of a community of biggots overcoming the sensible thinking of one individual. If you believe for one second that anyone has the ability to break away from traditional beliefs while living in this kind of town you're sorely mistaken. Basically, they got to her and forced her to change her mind. Being ostracized is a big deal for most people, and in small, tightly-knit communities like this one it can have a huge impact on your life. I was hoping for a little more courage from his stepmother, but there you have it.

If anyone's interested, here are his 2 most recent updates to the funding page.

Wow! Thanks for all the support... I am just so blessed! Please know that I mean no harm to my family in the video. I love each and everyone of them. What was done to me was devastating. My life was turned up side down... With this support I am beginning to put it back together. I am planning on donating a portion of this to the LGBT community to help kids in my same situation. I am feeling the love and with this WE can all make a difference for equal rights and acceptance . Thank you again!!

I would like to the opportunity to thank each and everyone of you who has so generously donated. My intent is to pay if forward and hopefully turn something so negative into something positive. I will do my best to value the gift I have been given by so many of you. Thank you for your love and support.

If you would still like to make a donation please consider donating to Lost-N-Found Youth in Atlanta... they have been an amazing support and resource through this difficult time.

Daniel
Yeah…what a scam artist.

So glad to see him doing well and feeling loved, even if it's from strangers. Seems like a really good guy caught in an un-winnable situation.

This is such an ####### way of apologizing. Dude, you said something that is offensive and borderline homophobic. Own it and apologize for it properly, or just admit you don't give a ####. Blaming someone else for being offended about your ####ty attitude is about as disingenuous as it gets.

I wasn't aware that this was a growing issue on CP. Sure that one post was of poor taste but if there is a bunch of homophobes they are doing a good job of concealing themselves.

But some of his best friends are Black gay, so he can't be racist homophobic.

Unless punishment hasn't been handed out yet you got let off really easy on that one, blackwallstreet. Please don't ever post anything like that again, there should be zero tolerance for that on CP.

Especially right after the discussion about how both straight and homosexual youth are bullied for a perceived "gay" voice. You knew exactly what you were doing with that comment.

Are you trying to say there's an epidemic of homophobia on CP? I have seen more stereotypical shots at religion and southern US people than at gay people in this thread. Just because I'm not 100% down with the kids intentions of videoing this and releasing this it has nothing to do with him being gay or not.

The thing is being white in the south and being religious are the default ruling situations. If anger is directed at them, it's generally for good reason.

Being gay is the minority. It needs the help. If CP is truly biased towards the beliefs that the ruling parties are biased against, that's activism, not prejudice. And that's a good thing. The ruling parties can go cry about it for all I care.
