Rumor has it that Treliving is so against letting prospects get places on the roster that not only did he sign Setoguchi, he straight up Tonya Harding'd Poirier's shoulder to ensure he would be held back.

Actually that's a misconception. He likes prospects to ripen.
In related news the flames have instituted a paper bag and bananas therapy for all prospects

So I guess the trick is to make sure that they ripen and don't stew.

Hey, if you can let those bananas all over-ripen then you turn them all into banana bread!
I like food analogies.

Secondly, Setoguchi playing well doesn't benefit the Flames that much since he's capped out as a 3rd liner. A guy like Poirer, however, has the potential to be a first liner who plays similar to Brad Marchand. The Flames have a bunch of 2nd/3rd liners in Stajan, Jones, Huds, Glenny, etc. and need to create first liners. Don't kid yourself, Setoguchi isn't going to make the Flames better long term, so why not invest in someone who will?
|
Actually, MOST Flames fans who actually watch the team know that Huds is a natural LW and Colborne has only played RW for half the season. So don't be a snotty ass when there's an easy rebuttal against you.
Secondly, Setoguchi played 1st line just fine on SJ. Which, if you watch hockey, was a much better team than our 2014 roster. Setoguchi has not 'capped' out at 3rd line, he's fallen to 3rd line and is looking to regain his game. Which, was 1st line. And for someone who watches so much hockey, you listed 4 players for the '2nd and 3rd line'. You're aware that there are 6 players on the 2nd and 3rd lines right?
And finally, how is 'investing' (a 1 year low contract isn't 'investing', but I digress) in ONE PLAYER who is TWENTY SEVEN doing anything negative for the kids. The post you quoted me on I stated then that the kids have all opportunity to oust a position from Setoguchi or Jones. Were you just going to ignore that point and state yours over and over again, or do you actually have a point against Setoguchi losing his spot besides "he'll be grumpy"?
Bonus: If you want to be credible yourself, spell Poirier right. Not to mention, he's injured. I wouldn't be penciling in an injured and unproven prospect on the 1st line just yet there slick.

Great signing. I personally think some of our kids need more seasoning. Johnny has big league skill no doubt, but it takes much more than that to be a star in the NHL.

...source?
Last thing I've heard was Burke (he's pretty credible, in case you were wondering)
Quote:
Such as highly touted prospect Emile Poirier having undergone off-season shoulder surgery.
“He played with a bad wing all year,” said Burke. “We’re not going to see him till late-November, early-December.”

Poirier is not going to be playing in the NHL this year. Even saying he will be next year would be a stretch. I am not expecting him to be officially in our lineup until the 16-17 season.

Quick estimate after looking at man games lost is about 300 or more per team. That means almost 4 man games per actual game if the math makes sense. The lowest was 88 and the highest was 500+

It better have chocolate chips in it. Banana bread without chocolate chips is junk.

Huds played RW all last year. He played centre early in his career for Detroit. Natural LW? C'mon.....

Are you for real? Seto just signed a 1 year contract just barely over league minimum with the 4th worst team in the league in late August. 29 other teams saw no value in him. You're calling him a first liner? You really don't watch hockey, nor do you know what etc means.

Sad defense mechanisms at work here. You've resort to spelling errors when you're clearly not an English major. This is how you use quotations: "[T]he post you quoted me on I stated...". Pot calling the kettle black, indeed.

Hudler did spend a good chunk of time as a LWer last year.
Statistically his most frequent line combination was
Hudler - Backlund - Stempniak at 14.24%
He definitely got used as both (primarily as a RWer), though even when he's a RWer he makes his way onto the left side of the ice often.

It's weird that the site you linked shows Hudler as a C on the top three line combos for him - assuming I'm reading it right. Cool site though, thanks for the link.

Nah, it just spits out the linemates alphabetically.
And yes, it could then be argued that Stempniak was the LWer on that line, but I checked the game footage from when they were together and Hudler was LW.

It's bad, not Buffalo bad but pretty bad.
The whole point though was that if a rookie can't crack that lineup then they aren't ready.

So with Setoguchi here's how I see Hartley deploying the lads next season:
Glencross-Backlund-Hudler (1st line - the tough minutes)
Raymond-Stajan-Setoguchi (2nd line - possession/checking)
Gaudreau-Monahan-Colborne (3rd line - high ground starts / scoring)
Bollig-Bouma-McGrattan (4th line - Marvel vs Capcom)
