Not sure why Burke and Treliving are dragging the Bouma resigning out unless there is a deal already in place and Bouma just hasn't signed it due to summer. I can't see Bouma asking for much more than he is worth and I can't see the Flames not wanting him back in his checking role.

Bouma should get 900k, and then a $100 bonus for each blocked shot.

Cha-ching!

We still have August.. Nothing to worry about. I think we'll see something in a week or two.

If you only earn a year of experience by playing at least 10 professional games during that season, he wouldn't have earned a year for 2012-13, where he only played 3 games in Abbotsford before getting hurt.

Hey AC, how about a Bouma shot block compilation video? He had some epic shifts last year - wasn't there one where he blocked a shot off his ankle, stayed down on the ice for 5 seconds then got up and blocked another shot?

The guy is a warrior. I hope he has a decently long career to collect NHL salary money for all the pain.

What the heck is taking so long?

“The only thing with Lance is we haven’t agreed to a number yet,” Treliving assured. “We’ll continue to work away at it. We’ve still got time before training camp opens and we’re hopeful we’ll get something done but as of yet, we haven’t. That’s where that’s at.”

The Flames have just under $17.3 million in cap space — plenty of room to sign the 24-year-old farm boy from Provost, Alta., who finished tied with Ryan Getzlaf for the second-most blocked shots (89) in the league among forwards.

Bouma showed considerable improvement in 2013-14, establishing himself as a physical presence on the fourth line in front of the net in 78 games, the most in his three-year NHL career with the Flames.

“Hey, I know who Lance is,” Treliving said of the former Vancouver Giants captain. “Not only last year but following him all the way to his junior career in Vancouver. He took a step forward last year and we hope and expect him to take another one (this year). This part is the business part.

“We like Lance, but now it’s getting something both sides are comfortable with. So far, we haven’t been able to do that and we’ll continue to do that.”

I wonder if they are trying to low-ball him like they did Byron. Bouma had a solid season but he doesn't have much leverage as he is easily replaceable by Reinhart/Wolf/Ferland/ etc.

Already at the floor, http://www.capgeek.com/flames/.

He'll get a fair contract, might just take some time but I really don't think its anything to worry about at this point

What Bouma brought to the table last season is definitely not easily replaceable.

Huh, we are at the floor with 3 signings left, it is almost like the floor was completely irrelevant in the Englland signing. That always seemed like a made up reason to justify that atrocious signing.

Either way it is never too early to start throwing money around to meet future cap floors. Give Bouma 3 million a year, he seems like a nice guy who could use the cash.

Who are the three?
I know you're being snarky about the "Bouma 3 million" comment, but that's about what we would've had to have given him if we didn't sign Engellend

Yes, Bouma blocks a lot of shots that most players wouldn't and he has a lot of heart which makes him a fan favourite, but he's not an integral part of the team. If Treliving thought he was a must-have player he would probably be signed by now. I suspect a 1 or 2 year deal worth less than 1 million per season coming.

Well the Floor this year is 51 million, capgeek has the Flames at 51.7 with 3 contracts left to sign. Take away roughly 2.9 for that godawful Englland signing and you are left with 48.8 million and 4 contracts to reach 23. The Flames would have needed 2.2 million to reach the floor, or just over 100K more than the absolute minimum they could have spent to get 4 contracts on the NHL books.

Either way give Bouma 3 million, he seems like a nice guy and next year we are not at the floor yet so who knows, there may be some fictitious reason to throw away money next year that this pre-emptively would answer.

So Hiller is doing great after his appendicitis surgery, but why did they fail to ask about Sven? It'd be nice to have a summer update on all our injured guys, since they're already chatting with the GM anyway...

Blocked shots? Chris Butler blocked more shots and he was replaced. IMO the Kerr/Simmer love fest for this guy during broadcasts has created the illusion to some fans that Bouma is the second coming of Brandon Prust to which he is not. He doesn't have much in the way of offensive skill and he's not really much of a scrapper. He's a below average NHL player that wears his heart on his sleeve and plays very hard but his ceiling is very low. Don't get me wrong as I hope they agree on a deal but I have no issues with Treliving ensuring that the Flames aren't overpaying for 4th line players with limited upside.

^, Imo, a defenseman is supposed to block shots, that's kind of something that they need to have in their game to be successful (unless you have more of an offensive defenseman role). For Bouma though, I think he was one of the top forwards in blocked shots last year. The guy truly is a warrior.

I think a 2 year x 1m deal is fair for both parties.
